I've noticed that the General forum gets kinda filled with political threads these days. I think most of us enjoy a good political debate every now and then, any chance of a "Politics" forum?

Anyone else think this might be a good idea?

I just point and click so I'm not sure if adding another forum is a big deal or not.

Have a good Independence Day all!

Hey, good idea!

I second that one.:D

I third that one. The forum description reads "General aviation related discussion that doesn't fall into a sub-category below"

Come on, this is almost as simple to understand as FAR's! ;)

I'll make one

Ok, I'l add one this weekend.......how about this for the description:

Political Forum..." for those who don't seem to understand that the "General Aviation forums" means general aviation discussions only.

Political Forum..." for those who don't seem to understand that the "General Aviation forums" means general aviation discussions only.

That's a good start, but consider calling it this:

"On your Mind" All of the things that don't involve an aircraft but are important to pilots in general and YOU in particular.

In it, we can place ALL union discussions (since that isn't an avaition topic) and include RJDC, quality of life, politics, religion, taxes, where to stay and eat on a particular trip, etc. Maybe even PFT threads that don't mention a King Air or a 1900.

If you move these topics there now, you will have the "new" most popular forum.

By the way, did anyone barbeque yesterday?

:D

Nope, but the boss did take us all out last night and got us all hammered. Enough that we were finally asked to leave. :)

That's when you know it has been a fun night, when the manager throws you out. ;)

What's even more fun is when your boss is cool enough to get thrown out with you. :D :D :D

No, but I did grill some chicken and marinate/baste it with Jim Neeley's Interstate BBQ Sauce that I bought in MEM. It may not be southern BBQ cookin' but it sure was good especially with the ice cold beer. This northern boy was quite happy.

I love Interstate BBQ.

I went to a barbeque at my former flight student's brother's house. She had warned me that her brother likes WELL DONE burgers, as in "hockey pucks".

I brought along a half dozen ground sirloin patties from the local butcher shop.

Mmmmm. Medium rare.

Ahh, hockey pucks!!! Just like Mom used to make em! :)

All kidding aside, I know what you mean... Medium is good for me, anything more and you just cook all the taste out of em.

There needs to be another forum:

BBQ

No description needed. Mmmmmm, Rocky Mountain Apricot BBQ Sauce on chicken tonight.

Yep, everyone could just list the best BBQ stops around... I'm always looking for another one to fly into...

Anyone else been to the Smokehouse in Gainsville? Probably not the best, but pretty darn good and the price can't be beat!

How about a pizza and beer forum?

How about the same advice one could give to those who are infuriated by Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, Chris Matthews, etc...

If you don't like it, turn it off. Noone is making you listen.

Or, in this case, if you don't like it, DON'T READ IT.

I don't understand why its' simple presence on the bulletin board is such a bother. The topics are pretty easy to spot, and even if you find a thread that degenerates from a flyboy discussion into something else, just hit the "back" button on your browser.

Seems simple enough.

Uhuh, considering most political debates on here, including the most recent one, get rated 2 out of 5 stars or less... I'd say that's a long shot.

Most if not all of the political debates on this forum are you arguing with 1-3 other people, I'd hardly call that "popular."

The international pilots' website www.pprune.org has both a current events section and an anything goes "JetBlast" section. The tend to get a lot of people and its quite interesting. Maybe we could have the same here? Just a suggestion.

I'd hardly call that "popular".

The two stars are from people who "bother" to place a rating, and isn't a factor in how popular a thread is, but it is more of an indication that someone disagreed with the content of the thread.

On the other hand, if you look at the number of "views" the thread gets, indicating how much people like to check in on what's going on in a given thread, then yes, I'd say that it's a popular thread.

1790 views and climbing. I guess someone wanted to see what was going on, and quite a few times, eh?

Have you noticed that I never start these threads, and that I only respond to a question or an erroneous statement?

Anyway, as IP said, you can just choose to look at something else...

You can't judge how well liked a thread is by its number of views. First, it may be the same handful of people checking the thread repeatedly.

Second, there's a huge difference between people repeatedly reading a thread because they "like" it, and people repeatedly reading a thread in order to check if anyone has posted any statements they feel they have to counter.

If someone disagreed with something in the content of a thread then they probably agreed with something else in the same thread. Both/all sides of the issues are usually expressed. It is not probable someone would give a thread a low rating if they disagreed with what somebody said, but rather they simply dislike the thread!

First, it may be the same handful of people checking the thread repeatedly.

It would have to be a sizeable handful for this many views, wouldn't it?

Second, there's a huge difference between people repeatedly reading a thread because they "like" it, and people repeatedly reading a thread in order to check if anyone has posted any statements they feel they have to counter.

I never said that they "liked it" specifically, only that it was "popular". If they are so motivated to check for the possibility of making a counter argument, then it is a popular thread with some people who never decided to make a post as well.

It is not probable someone would give a thread a low rating if they disagreed with what somebody said, but rather they simply dislike the thread!

Why would that not be probable? There is no way to find if only one person cared to submit a rating, so only one person submitting a vote of two stars, for whatever the reason, could end up leading to an incorrect conclusion about whether the thread was liked or disliked. I like the view count, because at least it shows that more than just a handful of visitors stopped in to see the thread. After all, what is the maximum number of times someone might stop by just to see if he wanted to make a post?

How about a section for our wonderful english professors like Tarp and NuGuy. They can go there and correct everyones spelling and grammer errors. Hey I know, we can post our threads and responses there first, they can correct them, then we can post them on the regular board.

It is amazing, two or three mispells or errors and they CAN NOT finish reading the post. Their superior brains just can't handle the ridculous notion that someone might not spell or write as good as them. Hats off to you guys, you are the BEST!
