Here's to you Flightinfo ASA doomsayers

Regarding the ASA contract dispute...

I love how flightinfo brings all of the union and contract naysayers out of the woodwork. To read this forum, you would think all but of a handful of pilots are against our "runaway MEC". No wonder management is so empowered to cut our pay, speak ill about our union, and most importantly, in no hurry to settle the contract!

Unfortunately, this forum has no basis in fact regarding whether our pilots will vote to strike or not. It is by no means a scientific poll. Due to its anonymous nature, the naysayers my not even work at ASA. They may not be pilots. We have no way to know.

So just let the naysayers of flightinfo nay. The vast majority of pilots (90%+ according to the MEC polling) support the MEC and its negotiating goals. Those sounding off here do it out of cowardice and desperation because they would get told off in the crew lounge if they spoke out. Let management think they have the pilots support, since they read this forum. The joke will be on them.

Thank you John.

With so many labor groups in the US encountering full frontal assaults from their management, and powerless to do anything about it, aren't we fortunate to have an organized group to go to bat for us. As someone else recently put it: they would outsource us to India if they could. It would not be pleasant to directly bear the barrage from a management who came to you and said take a 30% pay cut or quit. For all ALPA's faults they provide a massive buffer between us and management...most labor groups do not have such an advantage. As we speak, ALPA is fighting in Washington, a DOT proposal which would allow much greater foreign ownership of US airlines. Another recent fight is for enhanced fatigue regulations.

I refuse to take our MEC and CNC for granted. These folks do this on a voluntary basis. I would not want their jobs. Have you met Captain Dave Nieuwenhuis? Anyone who had would recognize a very solid, sharp individual. I for one, feel quite fortunate to have someone such as this speaking for my interests. My guess is that the majority of those so critical of ALPA and our MEC have never taken an active role in the organization.

Well said.

GREAT POSTS. Both of you guys. I would not want their jobs either. I am ,however, very glad they are there doing a great job despite mgts record setting stall tactics. I know that the "naysayers" are not even close to the majority at ASA. Solidarity is the only way we can get this done. We do have it and mgt either knows it or will find out soon enough!

For further evidence, read the responses here to Charlie's sequel as opposed to the ALPA site and more importantly, crew lounge chatter.

All I'm hearin' is "F-'em all" everywhere except here, and only from the same 5 or so individuals. Hmmm 34 no votes out of 1700 pilots still looks like a 98% strike vote to me.

That is why this company hires the 300 hour wonders that have 2ths imc.

Dang, that must be the root of the company's problems there. Fire them all!! You do know that the Air Force lets "kids" fly their jets with a few hundred hours... a lot of European airlines hire kids with a few hundred hours that have gone through specific training courses. Probably the same in other parts of the world. Of course in other parts of the world, usually the airline foots the bill for all their initial training!

True, however I would much rather have someone trained by the miltary with "only" a few hundred hours than someone out of a PFT outfit....How about you?
