A friend of the family called last night asking for help. Their son was severely injured in a car accident in Rome, Italy recently. They would like to know the best way to get him home as his injuries are so severe that he can't safely make the trip on a commercial flight. They are interested in chartering a plane and are not sure who to contact or how to proceed.

Do any of you have information or ideas?

Thanks

There are Med flight companies that have Gulfstreams and similar transatlantic aircraft that you could contact. Sorry I cannot remember the name of the one I am thinking about right off hand, but if you contact your local med flight company I'm sure they could send you in the correct direction.

I know I haven't been much help.

Last time it came up was a few years ago to bring an airline crewmember home after a traffic accident in Europe. I think the Aircraft was a GIII rigged as an air ambulance.

Call 1 800 426 6557 and ask for Ed Stanley. He is principal dispatcher for Critical Care MedFlight. If he cannot help you, he can tell you who can.

Is there health insurance? I purposely carry health insurance that will cover air ambulance out of third world countries, but most insurance companies at least know of air ambulance companies that can do that stuff. It must not be covered, or you wouldn't be asking, but they should at least know who to talk to.

The only one I've worked with is all contract, so you couldn't just call them up.

Good luck.

Dan
