I've attempted the WIA thing twice, (each time I was furloughed). I got the major runaround both times. MO said they had the money, but there wasn't enough market growth in aviation to qualify me for cash, if I wanted to become an A&P they would have paid, I wish I could have remained unemployed for 2 years!

NC said they had no money for type ratings, but there was a pilot they helped, he went to truck driving school.

AZ wanted me to attend several classes on how to construct a better resume and how to fill out applicationsjust so they could send my paperwork to the people who decide on WIA benefits. The woman I spoke with told me I would most likely be turned down, when I asked her why she answered that most pilots are turned down for funding. Maybe we're so rich we don't need that money.

I did have luck with NV, they told me I could have $3000, I was about 2 weeks down on their list, and please be patient. I called them 3 weeks later and they said I was only 2 weeks away from being called...

Now the good news. I know a guy from United, he went to one seminar put on by the state of IL and UAL and walked home with $6000 for his 737 type. A bunch of folks lucked out by being from PA, and when Midway furloughed NC did give some people $3500. I wish you luck, do the leg work and it may work out.

Hi!

The money is controlled by a local regional office in each district. Each state has different rules, and each regional office has different rules.

I was living in WI, and flew for a co. in MO. I tried both, to no avail. I only checked with the local regional office in WI. They told me I could try any of the regional offices in WI-I didn't. I luckily got hired by an airline, and I'm here now. I'm lucky!

interesting how different the rules are concerning unemployment. when i got fired i filed in tenn, the state i was living in at the time. worked in FL, paycheck from OH, lived in TN. they never questioned it one bit or gave me this six months concept the other poster mentioned. the unemployment counselor even suggested i go to another state to get more money (words to that affect). TN is one of the lowest...but i almost made as much on unemployment as my first year at a well-known OH regional...

I have posted this bfore..........

I was furloughed in 2001. I lived in Mo. but was based in Ohio.

Mo. would give me $3000.00. Ohio gave me $9000.00+food+hotel+rental car. I went with Ohio.

I got a CE500 type at simuflight. I coughed up the difference between the $9000.00 and $11,800.00 they charged.

Two weeks after being typed I got part time contract work. A month later I got full time work. Three months later I got a full time career with a very profitable company. I had never been in a Citation before my training. I didn't know anyone in corporate aviation. I listened to some smart people on this board.

It worked for me. I might <probably> not ever make the money I did at the airline, but the job is alot better. Things worked out for me. Was I lucky? Yes, I feel very lucky. But, I assure you I worked very hard, everyday at finding a job.

Money isn't everything. I am home almost every night. I work some long hours some days, but I did at the airline too.

Life is good. Hang in there.

I was furloughed back on October 2001. I went back to instructing.

Do what ever you have to do to survive but don't give instruction to any commercial pilot wannabees! There's to many of them out there right now looking for jobs!!! Yeah, right, like you or anyone else is going to listen!
