I talked to a guy today that went to get his 1st class physical. His doctor told him he had some sort of irregular heart beat. He had to do a EKG since he just turned thirty five and the problem showed up there also. They had to send the info to the FAA and he said it was disqualifying. He is going to get a full cardio work up from another doctor. Has anybody ever had any experience with this sort of thing? What could be some of the problems with a irregular heart beat? I think he said his heart would beat normally for 25 to 30 beats then skip a beat then beat normally then go through some other irratic beats.

I had the same experience about my heartbeat and the AME adviced me to get a thallium test. The cardiologist can't find anything wrong with my heart after the test, so he wrote a letter to the FAA clearing me for 1st class medical.

Proav, If you see this guy again, tell him to lay off the soy protein isolate and all soy crap, stay away from all artificial sweetners aspartame, nutrasweet, etc. quit drinking all soda pop. no caffeine, and drink plenty of water and supplement with a calcium magnesium citrate which is very important for regular heartbeat. give this a try for 30 days or so.

All good advice. However, it really depends on what the cause of the irregular heartbeat is. EKG's are not simple rythym measurements, but rather very complex indications of many things, including heart disease. So, the irregular beat may have an underlying cause which in itself may be disqualifying. Further testing is needed to be sure, though.

I am in the same boat but instead I went to the ER with chest pains. The blood work and all came out just fine but my EKG was irregular. I have had a nuclear stress test and am waiting to find the answers this week.

In many cases it can be your "base line" EKG, but that needs to be determined by a Cardiologist.

In other instances it may indicate you have heart trouble. The good news is that if you find out now you can make life style changes and improve your future!

Even if my EKG comes out ok this event has made me realize that I need to take better care of my self.

Best of Luck,
