Buck's still at UAL, but he's also an instructor in the L-39 for Pride Aviation. If you buy an L-39 and want to learn it, Buck's probably one of the 3 or 4 best IP's to learn from in the US.

Del Rio is not the end of the world but you can see it from here. To say that Del Rio is a great place is a lie but to say it is absolutey the worst is wrong too (Think Clovis, NM). In the 4 years I spent there I was able to see the Spurs, the Rampage (SA AHL Hockey club), the NCAA final 4 (Ok that was a one time deal), and meet plenty of people. Most of the locals are great and there is really none of the baser/townie BS I have seen at other bases. Of the 30,000+ people in the area 10-15 thousand work for the Feds (base, boarder patrol, customs, DEA, FBI, etc.). There is enough to keep you busy when you are there for the weekend, and SA and Austin are an easy drive away. Dallas and Houston are good long weekend trips.

KC pilot check your PMs
Clovis, NM really does SUCK alot.

P.S. Watch out for enlisted chicks. If you see a good looking white chick 18-25 chances are that's what she is...You don't want to spend your last night on base in the enlisted dorms like some people on this forum did...animals.

Whats wrong with enlisted chicks????

Nothing if you don't mind being kicked out of UPT and the Air Force and hung out to dry on every ridiculous charge the Air Force can think of to throw at you. I've seen it happen and it gets ugly.

Don't listen to Huggy. All of that high altitude flying has been hard on his memory! Here's my 2 cents. Going to Del Rio for flight training is great. Good wx, light winds, no distractions. You'll be so busy that the year will fly by and you'll make some good friends. Staying as a FAIP is not so good. Four to five years in West TX is not paradise. Survivable? Yes, but you'll probably be an alcoholic and married to a sheep!

Terp: my wife's gonna kill ya for callin' her a sheep!!! And I only drink Scotch for medicinal purposes.

Well, even if its not pradise I'm going to get paid to fly. Thats all that really matters to me. I'll need to get a boat for the lake though.

Those that have been there more recently than I can correct me, if needed, but the base used to have a marina at the lake where you could rent ski boats for pretty cheap.
