Anyone know how well the radar on the 800xp works? I am coming from the ERJ145 were it was worthless.

I'm not sure if the 800XP Honeywell and Collins fleet both have the same unit, but the Collins airplanes have an excellent radar.

I actually preferred the Honeywell - the Collins phased array radar paints everything, requiring a lot more interpretation.

The radar works well. No surprises. The strike finder works well also (gotta keep the mx up guys). Remember if you are concerned about the Radar or Strike Finder just tune in an ADF. When there is a lightning strike the adf needle will point towards the storm.

Now if you really want some fun, back in the day before all this fancy stuff, you'd take out a piece of paper, tune in a ADF, mark the places it pointed to and advoid those spots. Works for an inop radar also.

Just don't point the thing at the ground and then ask for deviations!

Yea, we had a Captain doing that in FL. He had a FNG for a FO, who's last airplane had a plastic propellor & rubber band for an engine I think.
