hawaiian airlines just announced they are going to furlough 150 people some of which are pilots. anyone know how many pilots its supposed to be? and if they are announcing furloughs now, whats the rumored big announcement thats supposed to happen on november 11th?

here is the link for hawaiian airlines news release on their furloughing:

No, I don't know how many it'll be. I've always thought that the rumor of a 'big announcement' at the party on the 11th was just that - a rumor. I highly doubt they'll be adding new routes with the economy still in the dumps and war looming with Iraq. I think Adams & co. are just sitting tight for now and trying to minimize their losses.

The furloughs do pose a hard question for the company though, since most of the junior people that'll be furloughed are DC-10 F/E's, and we need the 10's because the 767's won't all be here until April of next year. That will cause a lot of shifting and retraining - a cost the company had better look at closely if they do furlough more than a handful of pilots.
