I don't think that would go anywhere. AS appreciates service to small cities/towns/villages. Its in our DNA. Just like its in yours.

Not necessarily. Just tweaking the egotists in Canyon Blue. Frankly, I think the world of HAL and LOVE the rumor of an AS/HAL merger.

Just put a parka on the Hawaiian girl and you have the PERFECT tail logo!

Not to dampen your widebody dreams Fubi, but we are hearing rumors too of a possible close "friendship" with HAL, and since they have A330s and 767ERs like we do, and also do Japan flying from Hawaii that is open to anyone (except slot controlled airports), it might might be plausible. Throw in the rumor that Airtran/Southwest could dump their 717s with someone I know interested in 100 seaters, and HAL having the same type....... It just sounds more likely if you already fly the same types of planes....

Godspeed to you and Dan!

Well, since we're already the biggest DAL feeder, a three way would be appropriate!

IAD has higher RASM than JFK and has no HNL service... The CO EWR flight can often be less than full on some days...

Maybe Delta would feed them European traffic at JFK? I wish DL would add service too, but Hawaiian has that feed in Hawaii to the other islands. Maybe DL is watching to see if that type of service is viable? DL does want to win NYC.....

Godspeed!

OYS

Maybe that could be true, and you, me, and Capt Dan can fly A330s out of HNL to SYD! Good Aye Mates!

Well, I have a sneaking suspicion you guys would play the "career expectations" card and keep me off the widebodies.

But that's OK. I'd be happy finishing my career on the NG as long as its at MY pay rate and not yours.

LOL!

Maybe I am missing something, but checking the "other" pilot site and HAL's year 1 captain pay is $187 (12th year= $191) while your (ALK's) year 12 captain pay is $177...

I think he was comparing Alaska to Hawaiians NB rate which tops out at $162 at year 12 for Captains and $113 for FO's.

Yall are going to farm out more flying? I would be upset at someone!!

We'll even give you no fenced DoH. That means your widebody Capts will get a pay raise. Let's do it!
Hey Fubi, as of now I'm making $16 an hour more than an equivilent FO at your outfit. When I upgrade in a couple of months, I'll be making $19/hour more than an equivilent Captain. 'Facts is Facts'.

So when we merge, get used to flying the same routes you are now, in the same planes. Dan Roman and I will be watching the girls on Bondi Beach while you have a lovely overnight in Newark or Nome. ;)

Actually, I think a merger between the two would do more damage than help. Hawaiian really does do well because it is 'Hawaiian'. Like Dan said, take away that essence of what makes us different, and we lose our competitive advantage. The other airline executives know this, which is why I really doubt we'll merge with you, or Delta, or JetBlue, or whatever the flavor-of-the-week is. Good luck. I know from experience that Fairbanks is just lovely this time of the year. :D

Well that's the essence of it. We are filling up those airplanes in Japan to Hawaii (and everywhere else) because it's Hawaiian Air. Paint another name on the side and take away the local Flight Attendants and Hawaiian Style inflight entertaiment and we would lose most of what makes us successful.
I had to laugh when Fubi has been going off on SWA for trying to take AirTran flying and than turns around and talks about "no fences".
The reality is rumors of people merging with Hawaiian are a constant. I remember over a year age some AK guy saying he had a friend on the MEC and the announcement was coming next week, it was a done deal.

If any mainland airline thought buying a local carrier was a good move they would have snapped up Aloha when they could have gotten it for nothing, trying to move in to Hawaii by buying a local carrier is way more problematic than just buying Hawaiian and thinking you will have a strong presence in Hawaii.

AK is doing very well as is Hawaiian, so was Piedmont and USAir before they merged........

You could make the same argument about Alaska.

Sorry, forgot the smiley face. I have to stop trying to practice irony on the Internet. No one ever gets it....

Both Hawaiian and Alaska Air have their niches, and they both are distinct brands. Alaska does well to Hawaii because they do mostly daytime flying to the West Coast, not all allnighters. Hawaiian does the same, with bigger planes. When it comes to flying to ANC and intra Alaska, Alaska Air wins hands down, very few direct competitors, and during the Summer they are very profitable to Alaska. Same with Hawaiian and intra Hawaii flying (Summer and Winter they are packed to Hawaii), but they have more competition to the West Coast and Asia. (Japan Airlines, Korean, Philippines, Jetstar and Qantas, Delta (Japan), plus all of the domestic flights on AA, UAL, DL from LA, SFO, SEA, etc)

Both of your airlines would make a great addition to Delta, though. I've been hearing that the second round of consolidation isn't far off, so you just never know.....If all 3 merge together, I will make sure that I buy all of you guys the third and fifth rounds, plus I will buy one order of 20 wings, mild please. Come join the borg!

That's exactly right. You guys have a strong presence in your markets as well that would be lost if anyone bought you. I don't think you have to worry either.

No, everyone has to worry. As I stated, there is one more round of consolidation left, and airlines that do well have targets on them. It's all up to CEOs and Bankers, and exit bonuses. If you have a niche, it could be very attractive. Both you and Alaska do. I know some stock prices are high (AK), but stock swaps work too. Look at the types of planes you have, and look what other airlines have the same, which could make integration easier. All speculation, you just never know....

I agree with most of what you said except Alaska makes money to Alaska all year-round. ANC-SEA="bread & butter".

Mild wings? Are you mad, Sir? Hot or NOT!!!!
