This is probably timed prior to contract ratification, but it is also a good precursor as to what to expect. There are furloughed pilots on this board and I think it's a safe bet once the dust settles, count on quite a few recalls, officially the union can't come out and say it, but off the record, I've talked to reps that are anticipating a major expansion.

Sad thing is, my guess is that this would be a done deal and the recalls would have already started if not for the chaos that the HARC plan caused, not to mention the cash out of pocket they caused by extra legal fees.
 
I'm furloughed from Hawaiian, and agree, that while cleverly timed (prior to a vote for the TA) I think that expansion is in the cards, and has been for a while. I spoke to a check airman who lives across the street from me, and he said that according to Earl Young, the plans are for 2 717's, and 4 767's. Who knows what the timeline is for bringing the planes on the property, but even slow expansion is better than none at all. I heard Kimo retires today. He was so much fun to fly with on the 10. Hope he enjoys retirement.
 
The new non-stop Vegas flight starts on the 11th of April. I dont know how the new staffing formula works with this new flight figured into it, but I am pretty sure it's going to require somewhere in the area of about 10 pilots??? maybe more????

If they can get this stuff settled quickly we can go about adding SAN-OGG, and possibly PHX-OGG.

The loads on Sydney have been good and will continue to develop.

To all the furloughees out there-the time is near-keep the faith!!!

Man charged with fraud in airline bankruptcy

NEW YORK, March 9 (Reuters) - A St. Louis man was arrested on Wednesday on charges he submitted false financial information to get approval of a bankruptcy reorganization plan for Hawaiian Airlines, Inc., a unit of Hawaiian Holdings Inc._(HA.A: Quote, Profile, Research) .



Paul Boghosian, 50, was charged with conspiracy to commit bankruptcy fraud and commercial bribery. Each count carries a maximum five year prison term. The complaint is filed in Manhattan federal court.

Man charged with fraud in airline bankruptcy

Hawaiian Airlines filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Honolulu in 2003 and is expected to emerge from bankruptcy shortly, possibly by the end of this month. A hearing to confirm a reorganization plan submitted by airline trustee Joshua Gotbaum, Ranch Capital LLC and the airline's official committee of unsecured creditors is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.



Boghosian controls Hawaiian Investment Partners Group, an entity that had submitted one of two competing reorganization plans for the airline, federal prosecutors said.

The complaint charges he made a number of misrepresentations in a November 2004 disclosure statement filed in bankruptcy court. The statement included false information supporting his firm's ability to provide $300 million in new equity funding and financing to carry out the reorganization, the complaint charged.

As part of his efforts to obtain funding to get the reorganization plan approved, Boghosian agreed to pay a $500,000 bribe to get a $2.5 million loan from a hedge fund, the complaint charged. He is accused of trying to bribe an FBI undercover agent who portrayed himself as a hedge fund manager.

Prosecutors said Boghosian was arrested in St. Louis on Wednesday while meeting with the undercover agent to accept the loan and arrange for payment of the bribe. Information on who will represent Boghosian in court was not immediately available
 
Oh well!!! There goes the Konop plan down the drain-NOT that he had a chance anyways!!!!

Bob is a pretty sharp guy-and I applaud him for trying, but it looks like he got hosed by his buddy!!!
 
FBI arrests financier in Hawaiian Airlines takeover plan

FBI agents this morning arrested one of the principal players in a plan to take over Hawaiian Airlines on charges that include trying to bribe an FBI undercover agent to help finance the deal. As a furloughed HAL pilot, I look forward to them exiting bankruptcy, since this has been drawn out way too long. As for coming back, I'll look into it once there are aircraft on the ramp. I've heard rumors too many times to believe it until I see it. For anyone considering coming back, remember a job in the hand is worth a million rumors on the ramp. The people at Hawaiian are amazing, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Lets hope the expansion rumors are real this time.

Visitor traffic up from South Pacific

Hawaiian Airlines began flying Australia-Hawaii four times a week in 2003. Qantas also flies the corridor, and Air Canada stops in Honolulu on its service between Vancouver and Sydney.

For a while there I was a believer in the Konop plan. I even posted supporting it on this board. However after reading all the court documents coming out on the Konop plan, I now realize it was an obstructionist fantasy. I'm glad that the HAL ALPA MEC saw through the BS and weren't sucked in by its false promises.

I hope the expansion rumors are true this time. The new TA is supposed to cut manning for the current schedule by 12 to 18 pilots, but it promises no new furloughs. This might slow the recalls down but I remain optimistic I will see the cockpit of a HAL 767 within the next year.
 
Jim don't believe that the new TA will cost jobs, don't take my word for it, you'll see. We are not over staffed and flying is increasing, once out of BK their WILL be expansion. I'll go on record here and say I think recalls will be in the mail in April

Hawaiian Airlines Cleared for Take-Off from Chapter 11

- Court OK's Trustee's Joint Plan of Reorganization


HONOLULU, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- After almost two tumultuous years in bankruptcy, Hawaiian Airlines received court approval today for its plan of reorganization. After its two remaining labor contracts are ratified and a formal order is entered by the court, Hawaiian should emerge from Chapter 11 in early April.

Hawaiian Airlines Trustee Joshua Gotbaum said, "This is a great day for a great airline and everyone who is part of Hawaiian: Our shareholders keep their shares, which have increased in value. Our creditors get repaid in full. And Hawaiian employees will, for the first time, get wages and benefits as good or better than our competitors. For an airline that two years ago was losing money and had less than $20 million in the bank, I think it's a real success.

"We all look forward to Hawaiian's emerging from Chapter 11 and showing the world that what is already one of America's best airlines will get even better," he said.

Gotbaum developed and proposed the Joint Plan with Hawaiian's creditors committee and investor group Ranch Capital LLC. He noted that, unlike most bankruptcies, under the plan at Hawaiian:

* Creditors will receive 100% of the value of their claims, most of them in cash. * Existing stockholders keep their shares, whose value has risen during the bankruptcy, and; * Employees have new negotiated contracts, which, for the first time, have pay and benefits comparable to or better than those at Hawaiian's competitors.

Furthermore, thanks to financing provided and arranged by Ranch Capital, a co-proponent of the plan and now the controlling shareholder of Hawaiian's parent company, Hawaiian Airlines will have substantial new capital for growth.

The Hawaiian bankruptcy has involved many twists and turns over the past two years. After the airline filed in March 2003, creditors successfully petitioned the bankruptcy court to replace the airline's CEO and controlling shareholder with a trustee.

Under a trustee, multiple reorganization plans can be filed, and several plans were, including one by Boeing, a major creditor, and another by one of Hawaiian's own pilots. The former plan was withdrawn last fall and the latter plan was withdrawn today after its financing source was arrested by the FBI for fraud and bribery.

Gotbaum, working with Hawaiian's creditors committee, established a competitive process to solicit investors for their own plan. In August, they selected and jointly proposed a plan with investors led by Ranch Capital, who had purchased a controlling interest in Hawaiian's parent company, Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. (Amex: HA - News).

In the two years since Hawaiian entered Chapter 11, the airline has restructured its fleet, aircraft leases and other contracts and made changes to its routes, fares and marketing. It negotiated new three-year labor contracts with its six union groups that will provide most employees with wage increases while implementing productivity improvements to keep overall costs from rising.

All but two of the contracts, those covering Hawaiian's flight attendants and its pilots, have been ratified. Once the remaining contracts are ratified, the bankruptcy judge can sign the order confirming the Plan.

When the Plan becomes effective, Hawaiian Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Dunkerley will become Chief Executive Officer. Lawrence Hershfield, Ranch Capital's managing director, who became CEO of Hawaiian Holdings and chair of its board, will also chair the new board of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc.

An Amazing Turnaround: Since entering bankruptcy on March 21, 2003, Hawaiian's turnaround operationally and financially has been remarkable. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Hawaiian has led the industry in on-time performance for the past 15 consecutive months. In 2004, Hawaiian was the top-ranked airline by DOT finishing #1 for on-time service, #2 for baggage handling and for oversales and in the top five for consumer complaints.

Two nationally recognized travel magazines, Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure rate Hawaiian as the best airline serving Hawaii and among the best in the nation.

The past two years have also been Hawaiian's most profitable. In 2003, Hawaiian made a $133 million reversal of fortune, generating an operating profit of $77.5 million on revenue of $706.1 million after recording an operating loss of $55.2 million on revenue of $632 million in 2002. And despite skyrocketing fuel costs, Hawaiian followed up in 2004 with an estimated unaudited operating profit of $70 million on revenue of $764 million. Hawaiian's (unaudited) operating profit margin in 2004, 9.4%, was the highest of all major airlines.

Her'e a couple more articles for the furloughed pilots. As is becoming more and more obvious, the slander against Ranch by HARC is getting more and more pathetic. That was the souce that said the trustee was staying on, the only source and totally lacking in credibility, and yet it made the news on one of the local TV stations. Contrary to what the HARC folks have been spreading. You'll be coming back to an airline that is well financed, a very strong and credible BOD and you have to look long and hard to find someone that doesn't think Mark Dunkerly is the right man for the job.
