Aloha gave away 1000 tickets. Now go's selling $2 round trips. At what point does the ornstein mantra of "look at ryan air, they give away half their tickets and are still the most profitable airline in europe" not work anymore?

This is just plain sad. Great time to visit auntie tutu on Kauai though.
 
Its called marketing. If they are selling tickets for $39 then this is $38000 worth of advertising.....dumazz.

As if Mesa pilots are included into discussions on fare structure and base allocations. Puhleeze!!! We all agree that Mesa's management sucks. They have created an environment that will be hard to sustain. As it was said in another forum, Mesa will probably lose a codeshare, go down to 900 pilots or so, add China operations and eventually leave Hawaii with their tail between their legs. Mesa is losing around 2-3 pilots per day...yes... per day. You do the math...it won't take long before vacations are cancelled and the company starts pushing for latitude in their minimum days off clause. The pilots are already prepared to declare Jihad and they now have more leverage than they have ever had. I believe they'll use it to improve things as things can't get much worse.

Mesa pilots are bailing in droves laterally and upwardly. This mass attrition is going to end the airline or cause it to shrink. You should be happy about that....back to the rant.

Actually Go probably got more of a black eye (due to their web site crashing) on this one. Also, the concept that Go want's people to try their product and maybe come back doesn't work. It's pretty hard to find someone that thinks Go provides a better product than HAL or AQ. Pleny of folks HAVE tried them and said "never again". By and large, Go has the worst reputation of any of the start up inter-island carriers that have come and gone in Hawaii. Their are a LOT of people in Hawaii that resent Go and not just airline employee's.
 
Some Air Travelers Aren't Buying New Airfare Promotion

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Go! Airline shakes up the travel industry with a one dollar airfare promotion. But it hasn't gone as smoothly as expected, and some aren't buying.
Soon after Go! announced its latest promotion Monday morning, bargain hunters bombarded the company's web site. But some air travelers say they're looking for more than cheap deals.
Go! Airline's one dollar promotion was too good for many to pass up. So good in fact, eager air travelers overloaded and crashed the web site. It was back up by three o'clock, but some say they want more from an airline.
"We've always chosen Aloha because of the staff, the service," said Rose Mendoza, a Pearl City resident who has flown on Aloha Airline since middle school. "They have the aloha spirit. That's the main thing: the aloha spirit."
She said that intangible "aloha spirit" can't be easily duplicated by a mainland company.
And over at Hawaiian Airlines, these air travelers agree, saying they're looking for more than just rock bottom prices.
Cynthia Charles said she's willing to pay a bit more for comfort, especially when traveling with two young daughters.
"There's more legroom, honestly," she said. "There's some airlines out there that want to squash you into very small seats but Hawaiian Air has a more comfortable plane."
Beyond comfort, Charles said she turns to Hawaiian for their service.
"Also they're very helpful with making any adjustments that you might need or helping people walk through a lot of the technical issues, everything, so popular these days on line," she said.
So, bargain deals may catch some people's eyes, but not these air travelers'.
"You know obviously we all work hard for our dollar so it's important to save that dollar, but there's an extent where I'm willing to pay a few extra dollars to have better service," said Charles.
They say, in some cases, the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies.
Go!'s one dollar promotion was good until midnight Monday. Neither Hawaiian nor Aloha matched it. Hawaiian would not comment, but Aloha said Go!'s latest promotion is a "desperate act by a desperate airline." So, the airfare war continues.

Like I said, there is a lot of local resentment to Go's tactics. Sure some think the low fares are great, but a lot more are aware of what is going on and don't appreciate being toyed with. Hawaii is a great place, but there is an undercurrant of resentment towards "outsiders" who come here and start attacking local traditions.
Need more proof? No matter how low the fares have gone, Go still can't get a decent load factor on 4 50 seat RJ's.

Mesa pilots bring competitions to the islands! where before us, status quo was preventing island families from reuniting!!! I thought Aloha was all about family, the Ohana, if you will. What kinda airlines prevents families from reuniting? and I thought there is only one Hawaiian. Because of the prices Hawaiian set before we show up, ONE Hawaiian? Try many! Seperated, and unable to see each other. Where the other 49 states use parts of their tax to built highways and connect families. The state of Hawaii fails to do exactly that by not suplimenting the interisland cost of travel. The state govt is to be blamed, but also the two local airlines!!! If it wasnt Mesa, island families, where would you go!..?

NEWSFLASH: Airlines are "for-profit" enterprises, not family reunification charities.

If Mesa was so concenred about the poor people of Hawaii why are they screwing over the people of Utah and New Mexico? Bring back competition to Utah! What about the poor people of Gallup?

there were no less than three 121 operators and many multiple more 135 and 91 operators in Hawaii before go! showed up. Don't forget the legitimate and well liked lion coffee guy that lost his investors when go! started all the saber rattling two years ago. He would have been the 4th 121 operator.

My prediction, there would have been zero anti lion coffee websites and his passenger loads would have been much higher than 63%.

Mesa can not compete fairly. Mesa profits by creating fear, instability, and leaves a scorched Earth in their wake.

Yeah, allowing the people of Hawaii to reunite. How romantic. What you fail to mention is the disasterous effect on the state, it's families, and it's economy if Mesa were to succeed in driving one of the local airlines out of business, and it's thousands of employees into the unemployment lines. Jacka$$.
