In looking at the goal/stats, we aren't even near the goal! A few years ago when Mark ran the fundraiser, we all coughed up $5,000 in no time flat with much lower membership. We now have a much higher membership, tremendously higher use of the site, and 1/2 the donations of the last fund raiser.

Can you live without this site? Is this site going to be incredibly valuable to you when the Airlines start hiring again? Is there a wealth of FREE information on this site that is invaluable?

Why not just institute a membership fee. Even if there was only 10% participation, that would still be a monthly revenue of $1014 per month at a monthly membership fee of $1. thats right. . . ONE DOLLAR A MONTH. TWELVE WHOLE DOLLARS A YEAR!!!!!! (10140 members registered, give or take 100).

The people who activly contribute to this board would be willing to shell out that kind of premium due. It would possibly weed out some of the non-helpful bunch, and would make the board a well funded, constantly updated website!!! And just think, that is using a feble participation number of 10% Surely we could do better than that.

I would like to hear some discussion on this. It would be a pay to play deal and would keep the ones who actually use the site constructivly from having to bear the cost of maintaining and improving the website.

Note to webmaster: Not bashing the current system, just providing some brainstorming fuel to find a more inclusive way of fundraising.

I did donate, as this is a very aluable place for me to be, keeps me off the street and all.

I do not think this is a good idea to make this a membership-site though, as somebody else will pop up with a free site, and ALL of us pilots are genuine cheapskates. I am!

But if everybody donates just a bit, that should help out tremendously!

I second the notion about how Flightinfo.com keeps me off the streets and on the straight and narrow. Moreover, I second Dr. Evil about the value of this site and how one can obtain virtually instantaneous and free advice once hiring resumes.

Seriously, Flightinfo.com brought me back to aviation. Those who have started a career post-internet cannot appreciate what a vast and valuable resource this board is. Perhaps I might have received better advice and had made some different decisions (and had better luck) had this board been around when I was pursuing the career.

I'd be happy to donate - once I get an interview as a direct result of using the site. I think that is very fair considering my situation - unemployed for over a year after 5th layoff in 12 years watching lots of my colleagues get hired. I have already paid plenty to various employment sites this year, even hired a specialist counselor. None of them produced the goods and I stopped subscribing because it was soul-destroying. Like any other business, I expect to get some kind of return for my investment. When the result is the same ie. no feedback whatsoever, I question the validity of continuing. All I ask for is @ least ONE SINGLE POSITIVE result. Is that too much to ask for? I've paid all my dues three times over at least and I am very wary of all these jobs being posted on various sites.

I'm not saying that this site is bad - it definitely is NOT, and it has useful info. However, I have personally come across three scams in the aviation job market this year alone. Also, recent reports reveal that MOST job sites on the net are questionable with repeat ads, questionable hiring practices, misleading ads and sometimes downright fraud. That was an indeopendent report and one that a lot of job hunters had suspected for some time.

The bottom line is caveat emptor - buyer beware! Nothing is guaranteed even if you pay for it.

This site is in no way intended to be a "job site". It is strictly what it is advertised as > "aviation message board". This is a board for sharing experiences, knowledge, and information, nothing more and nothing less.. I think you may be looking in the wrong place if your goal is to find your next job from this site. Yes, some job postings and leads are given on this board as a mere courtesy.....

I use it primarily to get and share info - nothing more!

The job sites I'm referring to are the likes of climbto350.com, HCL, Air Inc, PilotCrew to name just a few. Most require subscription fees upfront with no guarantees that the employer even sees your resume and more often than not you are just sending into hyperspace. Sometimes you don't even know what equipment the company has or where it's located because it's a "blind" ad, so the employer is in total control. I'm trying to get word out that in today's marketplace, the job seeker needs to be more than just prudent, to have as much information as possible at his/her disposal to make decisions and not waste time, energy and sometimes money for a lost cause. It's not the kind of news most people want to hear but nevertheless it is vital information for a lot of out of work pilots who need some direction on where to go and what to avoid. Also, just FYI, I did once come across a scam that was posted here. In fairness, he probably did not know until later someone pointed it out. Sometimes you have to sort the wheat from the chaff.

If you like, I will gladly post the report I found that tells the real "truth" behind the internet way of finding jobs. It is VERY revealing.

I believe in calling a spade a spade. It is also a well-known fact that when times are hard, the shysters come out with all kinds of lucrative schemes and empty half promises. I was there @ the last recession and witnessed the same then. Many new to this career field or have not suffered a layoff or furlough have no idea of the pitfalls. Don't you think they ought to @ least be aware of what is out there? Should we not share important information - even if it happens to be negative? I know that I would want BOTH the downside as well as upside.

After all, this is a a "message" board, as you so rightly point out!

On the subject of donating money to a website: I will gladly do it when I'm in a position to be able to afford it. Right now, I'm lucky to be able to put a meal on the table!
