A friend of mine took a job with a company here in Tampa St. Petersburg. The name is CAREFLIGHT they do medical transports in Lears. He told me that to get hired he had to be current and qualified in lears. Now they require all of their pilots to pay for their own recurrency training and since he wont be able to afford it he is now looking for a job. Can you believe that galls of these bastards? Look, do the pilot group a favor avoid CAREFLIGHT.

South Florida is a bad place to be a pilot. Most 135 companies require FOs to pay for initial and recurrent training and pay less than the commuters. For Captains the same is starting to take shape. More companies want guys current and already typed and prefer to use contract pilots so they dont have to provide benefits. Some even use contract Chief Pilots and DOs. Your odds of ever upgrading to Captain are slim as you will always be passed over in favor of someone who pays for their training.

At my former employer they hired 4 furloughed US-Air pilots who spent $15000 a piece on a type rating and were offered Captain positions even though none had any 121 or 135 PIC time in any type.

The problem is a huge amount of people that want to live and work in FL and will do so for little or no money. In addition there are a lot of fly-by-night 135 jet operators that dont have money for maintenance and running the office let alone paying pilots.

It's important to keep getting the word out on these outfits lest the new-comers to the business start thinking it's the norm.

Excellent. This is a good idea. Let's try to list all the scumbag companies out there. Maybe when they see pilots aren't beating down their doors they may rethink their policies.
