I have always read about this, but today i got to experience it first hand departing pueblo, co going to riverside, cali.. for a few minutes we were climbing @ 6500 fpm, due to mountain wave.. there were all type of a/c reporting mountain wave... i would like to hear from other that have experienced this before

Yep..experienced it. Sucks. Forget airspeed/altitude control. At least that's what happened to me. Just keep it as "level" as you can.

Mountain waves are a daily fact of life. Nothing evil or mysterious about them. Fly the airplane as you always do.

Fly it and report it.

I don't have any light aircraft experience in mountain wave. I have only hit it in the flight levels in a CRJ and in a B727. At altitude, you just report it and ride it. Spur it if you have to do so. I'd recommend "IGNITION ON" if you have it. ;)

Yup, hit a good wave while going west bound in the 742. Kept rolling the mach number from .77 to .89....little bumpy that night at 350. I prefer going east bound with the wave....at least you can surf it and not get the crap betten outta ya.

Yep, got it at FL 430 several months ago. Thrust lever at idle and still accelerating. Airspeed indicator showed thirty knots into the red zone. The pax asked why the engines went to idle and then back up again several times.
