This is for everyone who is trying to get on with FedEx. It definitely can happen. I have finally heard the good news from FedEx! I applied there in March 2001. I have updated regularly every month since then. I found a friend who I flew with in college to sponsor me. My sponsor walked me in to an assistant chief pilot's office in July 2005. I got a call in late December '05 for a mid January '06 interview. I got the letter yesterday saying that I am eligible for hire!

I have flown with American Eagle for about 8 1/2 years. My total time is about 7600 with about 3600 as multi-engine turboprop PIC. I only have about 3 hrs in Learjets. My background is all civilian. I was a flight instructor for about 3 years during college. I have had the opportunity to fly several different aircraft. I have been very fortunate, but I have also worked hard to get where I am today.

Keep after it if FedEx, or any airline for that matter, is your goal. Someday, your hard work and persistence will pay off. Good luck!

I don't think it has sunk in yet. I am very excited. I have wanted to work at FedEx for a long time. Everyone I came in contact with during the interview had nothing but good things to say about the company. They are all good people and have a great job. I am happy to be a part of it.

I'm not sure. I am in a pool until they start new hire classes up. I hear rumors of maybe April. We'll have to wait and see.

Yes, I believe that was true. I am not naive. I know that anything could happen, even to FedEx. I just know based on past history they have an excellent track record. I have to look at all the choices and make an informed decision. I think FedEx has the best chance of being around until I hit 60, (or 65, or whatever it will be).

Easy there Striker...AA made this very statement to me right after the "5 years to Captain" remark.

American doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as FedEx. Im sorry it didnt work out for you but the simple fact of the matter is that dude will retire a multimillionaire.

Given all the crap in this industry i'm surprised at a naive statement like that. I wish this guy the best but you kow what....it costs $23 to send a letter overnight via UPS.....thats ridiculuos.....I gaurantee you that cargo is not immune from a LCC startup.....good luck to the fedex new hire!
 
yeah right..an lcc cargo company to compete with FDX and UPS..go for it..all you need is 240,000 employees..thousands of trucks...5000 pilots who operate over 500 CAT3 aircraft all over the world...just the cost alone to maintain an airline CAT3 would kll an LCC..and if you want to compete you need to do it..we realize the customers are paying a premium charge and we try to give them a premium product.. and we already have LCC competitors..DHL..NOT! and the post office..oh yeah we now fly postal freight...guess they could not compete..but good luck...
