I have to agree with FlyChicago:

I have seen the "flayling arms" type of marshaling. There is also the " i cant believe you made me get off my butt and park you" type of marshling. (BOS is the culpret here)

another BOS thing was....let you taxi up to the parking area, while they were inside playing cards, and then come running out in a few minutes as if they just heard or realized you were there.

I have also seen the "robot".(ALB i think was this one) Very methodical and mechanical type of arm movements......which is also closely related to one ramp guy who used to do the "breakdance" style of parking you. I asked him what was up with that, and he said it was to "change it up a bit."

As long as they park me and dont have me taxi into to something i cant see....well then i can usually figure out what they mean.
