We've had three extensions, so I don't know why we wouldn't get a fourth. Although most of the previous ones were due to changes in the court appointed trustee, which wouldn't be the case this time.
If we do have our 717's pulled, my gut feeling is we'd end up Chapter 7. Without the interisland flying to move people around, we'd lose a lot of transpacific passengers, and we'd be toast pretty quickly.
Our management seems to think differently, but there's no way we'd be immediately approved for MD-80's by the FAA, and the time and cost of retraining, maintenace spares etc would be prohibitive. Not to mention we tried using MD-80's about 15 years ago and it nearly bankrupted us then. They are WAY too big and expensive to run on the short leg - quick turnaround interisland flights.
Saw that article on the web. Since it was from last week, I thought maybe there was some news this week.
You would think they would not wait til the last minute until giving an extension.
Unfortunately in this biz it seems like no news is bad news.
I keep remembering my friends at National that went to work one day and then everyone was told to leave the planes and close the ticket counters because the company was out of business. The employees where not told a thing til the last minute.
Hope it doesn't happen to HA.
Good luck to you.
Interestingly enough... in that article, they said Hawaiian is seeking extension to avoid reposession of several 767's. No mention of 717's which are all financed by Boeing..
What's the scoop with the lawsuit against Boeing regarding B717's?
"The bigger problem is that it looks like the trustee is beginning to lay the ground work to go after our retirement plan. The union is gearing up for a big fight on this. As part of the concessionary contract changes we approved earlier this year, we have a written pledge from the company not to go after anymore contract changes - including our retirement plan - in any future bankruptcy process. Hopefully they will honor that in the long run but I'm not counting on the company keeping its promise. They haven't yet."
If I were you I wouldn't believe it. Just look what happen at US Air?
