Did any of you guys get the profile for the USAA Cornerstone Strategy Fund. What do you think and have you had and experience with other USAA funds? Also has anyone used them for morgage/home buying and have thoughts on their service?

Thanks

I don't have the cornerstone fund but I have been using USAA for all of my insurance since I started needing insurance (15 years). I have car, homowner, renter, personal article floater, Mastercard, and have used them for a second mortgage as well as all of my auto loans. I have always been extremely satisfied with their services.

USAA is the best for banking and insurance (used them since 1987), but their mutual funds suck.

USAA is the best

I have been using them since 1986 and they have been superb. Their insurance rates are great and we normally get a dividen back each year. Any time I get a insurance guy who would like to give me a quote to get my insurance costs down, I just tell them I am with USAA and they just say "I cant beat them".

I dont have mortgage loans with them as their rates are a little higher than you can get elswhere, but their auto loans are great. Just bought my daughter a new car and got 4.59%. best customer service in the banking industry. Hope that helps.:p

I use USAA for my banking. Used to use for Auto insurance, but dropped them when they got to be too expensive for Auto + Home.

Anyway, their banking is GREAT. Free checking, 10 free ANYWHERE, ANY BANK ATM a month. And pays like .5% back for all check card purchases used as a Mastercard. It's a great deal. I keep a few $$ in a local bank for quick check cashing needs, but all else goes through USAA.

I've been using USAA for auto, renters & homeowners insurance since 1980, & they have never disappointed me--& I'm kind of a jerk.

I can't speak with any authority about any of their mutual funds other than the Science & Technology Fund. Still, I think their integrity is beyond reproach.

After I left active duty, I went to work for AFLAC (yeah, the duck people), who had a customer service department like none other, as a quality analyst. I later learned that AFLAC sent their executives to USAA to learn about how they did customer service.

Hope this helps.

USAA is great! I could not be happier with their service and products. LOW insurance rates, great banking, friendly staff.

I had USAA auto insurance for a long time. Then one day the send a letter saying that my policy premium is going to almost double because of an accident. First I called Progressive and got a new policy with the exact same coverage as the USAA policy at almost half of the original USAA premium (even with the accident). The second thing I did was call USAA and tell them to pack sand on their auto policy. At one time they were the best in the industry. I don't think it is that way anymore. I still use them for my 2 houses only because Progressive didn't do home owners when I switched companies. As far as the investment side of the house I dropped USAA in favor of Fidelity.

Rates are everything

Been a USAA member since 1966, they are not the cheapest out there, and cheap insurance is not what you are necessarily looking for in an insurance company. I have found them through the 4 or 5 accidents we have had to be very reasonable.

Stay away from investments offered by USAA. Insurance and banking products are great. Investments there are some of the worst I have ever seen. On another note, avoid anything that has the word "Variable" in front of it, i.e., Variable Annuity, Variable Universal Life, etc. etc.

I have had USAA for almost everything since 91' and feel the rates are sometimes high but the customer service is worth it. Never put on hold and no one works on commisions, so no one tries to talk you into anything. All my problems have always been solved in one call. Their funds are however poor performers.

Thanks thats what I thought

I used USAA for about 12 years and have good things to say about car ins. although I've never had a claim in 12 years they always answered my ?'s and provided a fair $$.

However when I moved from my parents house they mixed me up with my mom and canged her household ins. into my renters ins. and it was quite a fiasco trying to get it corrected as both my mom and I have the same initials in our names. I thought their renter ins to be a little high but they provided great coverage for the $$$.

Last summer when the pay cuts came and I got downgraded I took a 1500$/month hit in take home cash (thanks Chris Beebe) so I decided not to renew my renters ins. when the policy I had at the time ran out. That was this past Feb. When I called them inform them of this the agent seemed mad at me, she told me about paying monthly which i knew about but was like listen I know my payment options but if I can't afford it I can't afford it. She still seemed mad and couldn't understand why I'd cx renters ins. Besided I a freakin commuter FO I don't own any crap worth stealin or replacing. O well.

Anyway, Thanks for the input guys, I like the banking and am going to switch later this week.

USAA banking services are great.

I have their Cornerstone and Growth and Income mutual funds and as are most mutual funds they are doing poorly. The Cornerstone is less terrible if that's any consideration.

I've been using their insurance for 17 years. Their car insurance has been pretty good. I just bought a house. It was appraised for $89,000. When I called USAA to insure it, I was told they could only insure it for $209,000, it was an underwriter thing????? Needless to say I didn't get their insurance and went with Kentucky Farm Bureau for about half the premium of USAA.

I had a house before and went with the USAA mortgage company PHH. What a nightmare. They failed to pay the real estate taxes 3 years. They would end up paying them late when we would call to tell them about it. It went so far one year that we got a forclosure notice. Then when we sold the place, we sent in the last payment and for some reason they thought that was a prepayment on the principle. There were a lot of last minute phone calls and we finally are though with PHH. Never again.
