We'll get the budget for the kids on the ground. The CAS capability of AC-130s vs the JSF/F22 is a no brainer. While air supremacy is a primary goal, without the ability to support the grunts with big guns and precision ordnance, air supremacy alone is a strategic and tactical dead end. Due to high development costs, there will simply not be enough F-35s/F-22s to give our guys the tac air support they need to deal with the bad guys. The AC is the proven winner. The SpecOps thought leadership guiding the DOD recognizes that.

I understand your post. I flew gunships for 6 years.
That doesnt change the fact that a C130 is costing the AIR FORCE $125-200 MILLION dollars. Add to that the fact that most realize its slow and vulnerable in the firing orbit and you can understand why there would be resistance.
