80-95K Cap. & 45-55K F.O. are the numbers we consider for our future G450 crew (Really we will contract only a new Cap. as F.O. we'll kept our current Chief Pilot - because he hasn't time on G-IV's or G450, but has 1000+ hr on a DC-9-50 ).
When you hire a GIV Captain at $85K a year you have to ask yourself why would someone take the job? Are they inexperienced? If they are experienced and they are taking 1/2 as much as an experienced guy can make, it probably means they've got some kind of history (alcohol, violations, inability to work with others). Remember you get what you pay for!

Any one know if there are any of the good paying jobs in the Pittsburgh area?? I'll throw my hat in the ring........250K Nice!!!

Yes, we get we PAY for!, to date w/o public procurement we received 3 excelent resumes, the mean candidate has 8000 hr TT and 300+ on Gulfs as PIC + 1200 Jet, that covers the tipical insurance agregment, you must remember that fliying a plane is also a business and business is business, also we will finnace the type rating for the selected crew, we rely more in good training and psicological evaluation, than on a 20000hr TT and Military services.

Now, Why a guy with 10000+ hr look to fly a BJ instead to try be hired by an airline...

Is very respectable the politicies of companies who pays 250k+ to their Cap. in some cases means a large and impecable career with the same employer, but is very different the situation for the just hired, if you want 250k+ at year, you must to prove your value.

In the typical pilot career a BJ job is only a transition for an airliner job, but many FD they want to keep their cap's by confidence reasons usually offer better compensations to avoid the natural carrer jump, is the price of the captain's career castration.

But is not the same situation when a new BJ capt. is hired.

because many airlines suck is the short answer.

i don't agree with these statements. not everyone wants to work for an airline. i haven't, since i was wet behind the ears. after a furlough, i got over it. and i didn't have 10,000 hrs. i think you are right in that the big bucks (200+) usually come with long term commitments (unless you are running the show).

the castration bit is over the top. :)

your 80-95k is on the low side of the curve. i would think that since you are new to Gs you would want someone that is already typed and with more than 300 hrs in a G and pay him accordingly. then there is the problem of internal equity. oh boy this G has more implications than just the purchase price.:)

You take the job if you are being laid off from your "wonderful airline job at the world's greatest airline" (NOT!), you don't have any corporate ratings and the G job is in your home town and the pay will go up as your experience goes up.

You have to look at each situation and decide it it's right for you. Is it worth it to me to uproot my family to move to Hoboken, NJ for double the pay? No. Not at this time. But that's just me. Having made the "Big Bucks" at the airlines for at least a couple of years, I've found I'm much happier in my current situation at considerably lower pay. I'll live longer.TC

Great post TC. Big picture is always important. If all we cared about was compairing our situations to others we would all be miserable. Someone is always going to have it better than me or you ect.

With that said .... 85K a year for an experienced G captain .... shhheeesz. Gimme a break. Pehaps you will get the guy who was flying G-IV outta socal with revoked licence. Good luck.
