I noticed on the TFR's for the US Gulf coast that you must be in contact with Omaha 45. Is there an AWACS doing air traffic control in this region?

PART 4 OF 4 FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, 5. ALL CLEARED AIRCRAFT OPERATORS BASED IN THE AREA SHOULD NOTIFY THE CBP P-3, AIRCRAFT CALLSIGN OMAHA 45 PRIOR TO THEIR DEPARTURE. 6. FOR OPERATIONS WITHIN THE TFR, ALL MEDICAL FLIGHT OPERATION COMPANIES MUST COORDINATE OPERATIONS IN ADVANCE WITH THE FAA RECOVERY DESK TO AVOID POTENTIAL DELAYS. C. FAA RECOMMENDS THAT ALL AIRCRAFT OPERATORS CHECK NOTAMS FREQUENTLY FOR POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THIS TFR PRIOR TO OPERATIONS WITHIN THIS REGION. END PART 4 OF 4 WIE UNTIL UFN

I believe so, most FAA facilities are out of commission. Calls to the FSS are being routed across the country, but no aerial communicaitons are working with FSS. I believe a lot of radar and ATC sites are also down due to damage and no power.

The full NOTAM is under KZHU.

Omaha is a Customs/Border Patrol P-3. The rest of the TFR states FEMA only aircraft into the TFR. So if you need to go in, special authorization is required and you need to call Omaha. Flew into NBG yesterday which is just on the edge of the TFR and New Orleans Approach was up and running but VFR only in & out of NBG.

Let's all send out some positive vibes for the folks over there and help out in what ever way we can.

I'm pretty sure the border patrol has a P-3 with an AWACS type radar dish on it.

It looks like I may be flying an Angel Flight into Baton Rouge over the Labor Day weekend. I'm pretty sure that's out of the TFR. Does anyone have any first hand information about current conditions at that airport?

I am flying relief flights and food deliveries from Chicago, if you own your own plane or want to help in the relief effort, e-mail these people for instructions.

Here is a site that has recources to begin a relief effort and who to contact, the TFR goes to 5K, so you can't just fly in a drop supplies.

Sent them an e-mail. We have a potential charter pick-up in BTR on Sunday and would like to make use of the empty leg inbound (from the East) by bringing what supplies we can. How is ATC/traffic so far in and out ? Any delays, reroutes, etc.

Was in BTR last nite no TFR pretty busy airport. Alot going on. Sawthe P-3 take of definately not navy.

At certain times there were up to an hour delay getting out. Long line waiting to take off. Very busy takes forever to get fuel.

Customs has several P-3 of various configuartions, some have the same radar as the E-2.

( See: http://www.geocities.com/lucktam/awacs/p3aew.htm & http://www.topedge.com/panels/aircraft/sites/kopack/p3aew.html )

Here's the E-2: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_display.asp?cid=1100&tid=700&ct=1

Neither of which can be confused with the E-3 AWACS: http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?fsID=98

or with my favorite warbird (tongue-in-check) the EP-3: http://www.fas.org/irp/program/collect/ep-3_aries.htm

Those going into New Orleans, fly safe and keep the head on a swivel, it is very busy.
