Gary Kelly: We want to be very measured about any radical changes that we're contemplating, because what they've got works pretty darn good. AirTran flies its planes more full, more often, and with less overheadthan Southwest -- all things Kelly says his airline needs to do better in order to grow.

If Southwest pilots had your pay and benefits of course there would be less overhead.

Kelly could have just said "we are simply buying a younger version of ourselves".

A little disingenuos to leave out the whole story;

-larger airlines have more overhead than smaller ones.
-shorter routes result in higher utilization.
-competing against a single legacy versus every other LCC allows you to set pricepoint.

Everybody is hoping Southwest and Airtran pilots get the same pay rates...never thought about it going the other way.

(Not gonna happen, of course!)

You did . . . And the rest of the industry let you know about it, too.

Funny that now you want to look down at AirTran pilots.

More evidence that the People Dept. isn't perfect.

I am not stating that as a put down. Not at all. What I am stating is a fact.

An AirTran pilot quotes a statement from Gary Kelly (for what reason I don't know) and I merely respond with the obvious.

If you take offense to what I said then I apologize, however I don't think I made an untrue statement. Do you?

I am? How?

Don't sweat it. I thought the same thing when I read the first post.

Put SWA management in charge of AirTran pilots and we'll fully justify the increased cost.

Single engine taxi at SWA will save more than .5 Billion a year at current fuel prices. That figure came from SWA Flight Ops to AirTran flight Ops last week.
