It is my understanding that after a few years flying in the guard, many pilots go out and get a job flying with a major airline while still in the guard. How are these people able to work their schedules so that their airline duty schedule doesn't conflict with their Guard obligations? Do airlines try to be cooperative with pilots who are still in the military? Do airlines prefer to avoid hiring pilots in the Guard? How long does a typical Guard pilot fly full time with a unit before deciding to venture out into a civilian career?

Thanks.
