Just found out: Earlier tonight a GTA Bonanza leaving houston was flying through thunderstorms when the engine quit. The pilot managed to land in a swampy area. I just found out that the pilot is OK.

Single engine failure, at night, in thunderstorms... Scary

Be carefull out there guys,

They are a Pt 135 company in Lancaster, TX that flies out of ADS.

They have had rotten luck with those Bonanzas it seems. I remember when one geared up at ADS this summer, and that wasn't the only time.

Glad to hear the pilot is ok!

BTW did u notice this under the "employment"

Second in Command Positions:

GTA has a time-building program for our Barons and Cessna 401's & 402's. This is a pay for training program designed for you to improve your flying skills as well as build flight time. You will be actively participating in all aspects of the flights you are assigned. You may expect to build 60 to 100 hours of time per month."

Yikes!

Yeah, most the guys Ive seen there are legit guys that have their 135 mins and are looking to build multi time. However I saw a few guys go through the PFT thing. Cant really blame the company, all they see is the bottom line. However, I cant help but get upset with the guys that PFT and drive all of our wages down...

Glad the pilot is okay! Be a good interview story though...

I'd just love to be told by the company that so and so is paying to ride with you, you have to let him fly the empty legs...

Bovine Excrement on that!

Besides unless that second person is required by the certificate they can't legally log any SIC time since the aircraft isn't certified requiring a two person crew...but the company is saving money on insurance because "it's safer to have two pilots". And I don't know of many 135 outfits that would tie themselves down by having that kind of a limit on their certificate because they may run out of PFT FO's one month!

You too can learn to fly small piston engine airplanes through thunderstorms!
The short course- No weather training needed- because YOU'RE GOING!

Whoa, back it on up guys. Outfits like this do absolutely nothing to drive down anyone's wages. You need to look at outfits that are truely PFT. One that comes to mind would be Gulfstream. AMF, Airnet, and GTA all have FO's that are paying for their seat, true. But they can be bumped for freight, or if he/she doesn't show up the flight still goes. They are NOT replacing a paid pilot. Now, if these pilots show up in front of you for an interview one day, how you view the time in their logbook is up to you, but it did not bring down the industry.
