Could someone clarify what is the difference between a MORA and a Grid MORA...are these one in the same? Also how do you distinguish the two?

A route MORA is specific to that route and will give you 1000-2000 clearance above all obstacles within 10 miles of the route centerline and within 10 miles of the radius around the route endpoints.

A grid MORA gives the same clearance but over all obstacles within a latitude/longitude grid on Jepp charts or WACs as applicable.

In either case, if the obstacle is less than 5000' msl, the clearance is 1000' and 2000' otherwise.
