This guy was the only pro I thought had his crap together. Another stand up guy taken down by a chick.

Relax, the Great One will skate.;)
He can't be held resposible for his wife's actions. And besides, the whole thing's fairly stupid anyway. What's the difference between doing what they did, and just going to Lost Wages, NV and doing exactly the same thing there? Apparently they didn't bet on hockey, so who gives a *&^%?

This thing is WAY overblown. Gretzky, his wife and GM are going to come out of this just fine. Its not really fair though; the NJ state officials who have had months to get their stuff together get to "leak" the most damning aspects of this case with impunity while the people caught up in it have no choice but lawyer up, guilty or not.\

Lets run this thread again in 6-9 months when the facts come out.

I hope so. The only problem is that the FBI has a wiretap on him as he tries to start a cover up for his wife.

And who really cares about this stuff. Ya know, the management of these pro-sports teams come off like these organization are the freaking moral-majority. That in itself is a joke. Who gives a F who's betting on who.

Wire tap?

Haven't you been watching the news? W's got us ALL wire tapped right now! Who cares, as long as they aren't fixing games it doesn't matter. Who here can honestly say they haven't bet on anything ever? It's all a crock. It's times like this when I wish Moses hadn't let the 11th commandment slip out of his back pocket. You know, the one that says: "Mind thy own"

The wiretap is itself another load of BS. How fair is it that prosecutors could allow voice conversations they needed a court order to even get out as a "leak?" Imagine if you were an ancillary figure in an investigation and before the accused are even arraigned, there is a leak of you supposedly on some wiretap on the 6 o'clock news...its unbelievable.

Team Canada will still take the gold medal in men's ice hockey. Janet can bet on that!!

Dude, they'll win the gold even if they all show up drunk and have Anne Murray between the pipes.

If Janet had asked you to do it, you'd have bitch slapped your mom. He may be "the greatest...", but she's still pretty darn hot.

I'd hit it!

(glances over shoulder to make sure wife isn't standing there)

To a large part, I think that most pro-athletes never grow up. When everything in life is handed to you on a silver platter, you never really have to grow up. It is a shame that a hockey legend had to do this. Definitely not a good example for the kids.

Back to class kid...you've got some learning to do. The guy in question is undoubtedly the most respected prefessional athlete in all of sports. The only thing he is guilty of is trying to protect his wife. The media is spinning this out of control...as usual. BTW, Team Canada could split their team into 3 teams of 7 players and win all three medals.

Team USA wins silver...in the women's tournament.
Men's team will probably not medal. Weak goaltending and old defence.

Gold: Canada
Silver: Russia
Bronze: Czech Republic (Beats Sweden)

Poor Italians, Canadian women are winning 4-0 six minutes into the first period. Wonder if there is a mercy rule?

As far as Gretzky, he has done absolutely nothing wrong. He's got a coach and a friend who it appears made a stupid decision. Nothing more. His wife can do all the gambling she wants. Its gotten to the point in this country where innuendo gets a man with flawless character crucified.

What did he do? Explain that part to me, because I don't get it.

He is a fantastic example to kids. Worked hard, learned to play the game better than anyone else ever has. Undersized; hockey is sport where football player-sized men spend much of sixty minutes pasting each other to the boards and Gretzky was neither big or strong, but played for around 20 years at a hall of fame level. He doesn't have lots of illegitimate kids floating around wondering who daddy is; he continues to be married to the same woman and has a good family.

Hockey has certainly helped him succeed, but I believe he would have been successful at most things he decided to try.

One word: taxes. When you win big in Vegas the gubment takes their share, when you win against your friends they don't get any dough. That's what it boils down to. It's absurd, I agree.

Jagr's gonna rip Canada a new one. He's on a roll now. But he won't get by the U.S.

Could happen. Jagr could have a huge game vs Canada in the round robin. Let him get his 3 points, that's fine. Canada's top 3 lines (Sakic, Iginla, Gagne/Thorton, Heater, Nash/Lecavalier, Richards, Bertuzzi) will take care of the rest.
Canada's biggest issue is the loss of Niedermayer on the blue line. Blake is not 100% and Pronger has an injured foot. That's where the Canadians should be concerned.
Team USA has switched to more youth. Unless one of their goaltenders becomes the second coming of Mike Richter from 1996, Team USA does not medal. Probably lose in the cross over game. The best American born goalie is not even in Torino. Ryan Miller for Buffalo was not selected to the team (he was injured during the selection progress).

I keep hearing that Ryan Miller will magically end up in Torino when a US goalie gets "hurt."

The best thing Robert Ecshe could do for Team USA is get wasted on the flight to Italy and do 1.5 twisting gainer into the jet bridge and 'injure' his ankle. Hello Ryan Miller and USA's chances improve.

Well, if its anything like Nagano maybe he'll be among those who get arrested for destroying their hotel rooms.

All Canada needs to end any question is unleash Phaneuf. Give him 28 minutes a game...bring home the gold.

I could not agree more. I would have rather seen Phaneuf in there before McCabe or Bouwmeester.

I think Jagr may have trouble moving with someone "Draped" all over him. Hence the lack of Staal, Spezza, etc.
