'Green' jet set to lift Bombardier

Canada's Bombardier expects to launch its long-delayed CSeries aircraft later this year amid signs of interest from prospective customers for the 110-130-seat planes.

Bombardier on Friday named several airlines, including Lufthansa and Qatar Airways, as well as International Lease Finance, a big aircraft leasing company, that have expressed interest in the aircraft.

It is also in discussions with US airlines that will soon need to replace large fleets of ageing MD-80 and DC-9 aircraft, including Northwest (NASDAQ:NWAC) and Delta (NYSE:DAL) , which are currently in merger talks.
 
"Biofuels", as such, actually contribute MORE carbon emissions than garden variety petrol based sources.

Ethanol is a piss poor alternative, anyway you want to look at it (chemistry, engineering, production, etc etc).

Hydrogen is way up there, as well, unless you couple it to a non-carbon source.

I think it's "green" in the sense that it burns less fuel than comparable airplanes. Lighter materials and geared turbofans. If it performs as advertised it will likely replace a lot of DC-9s and MD-80s.

The "C" has a "Geared Turbofan" engine, which burns much less fuel, is quieter, and has much less emissions that the current "greenest" engine operating.

This is planned as the NWA -9 replacement, unless Boeing comes up with their new 100-150 class-seat aircraft soon.

PS-Bombardier just announced that they are starting production of the "C".
 
Do they really believe they are going to have a monopoly on this market? Yes, I'm sure Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer are all going to sit back and let them cash in.:laugh:

Actually the Japanese have a 90 seater coming together for this engine and have been providing development money to Pratt.

But this 30,000lb thrust engine is too large for a 70 to 90 seat RJ - engines this size are currently being used on MD90's and 737's. May be a good candidate for a engine swap to make MD88's go forever like the DC-8 fleet did.

I agree! We should be concentrating on not allowing these crazed liberal scientists to promote their godless, pro-gay agenda. Next thing they'll tell us is that we can get energy, not from dinosaurs (as God intended), but from other things, like the wind or the waves or the sun. [/wildsarcasm]
