Someone said that all of the Grand Canyon tour operators except for Scenic/GCA have shut down. Is that true? There used to be a dozen or more operators.

I did some web searches and haven't found anything other than Scenic. When I was there in 1990 there were more operators than I could count. I just can't imagine that only Scenic remains...

didn't this regulation require 91 scenic operators to operate under 135 now? Or did that not go into effect?

i'm confused now... but i do think the rule became final and most businesses couldn't afford the change..

please correct me if i'm wrong.

The Grand Canyon tour operations are Part 135 certificate holders. Those flights are not conducted under Part 91.

Does Salmon Air do those tours, or do they only do Lake Powell area?

Current canyon operators that I know of are:

Part 135: King Airlines (KHND), Grand Canyon Airlines (KGCN), Air Grand Canyon (KGCN) and Vision (KVGT).

Part 121: Scenic (KVGT). Vision is in the process of switching to part 121.

I think West Air still flies of the Scottsdale/Phoenix are and sometime Page, Utah. They are part 135.

Helos: Pappillion (KLAS & KGCN), Maverick (KLAS), Sundance (KLAS) and at least one other (@ KGCN) flying the canyon. They are all part 135.

Scenic is currently interviewing and hiring. Go to http://www.scenicops.com/scenicpilot/index.htm for experience requirements and an on-line application.
