I'm looking for a good place to go and park down near Hartsfield to watch planes take off and land. I'd like to be able to see at least one rwy in use and have a good view of the approach path. Prior to Sept 11th I used to go and park along the fence on the access roads right at the airport boundary but you probably can't do that anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Back in the day I used to park up on top of the parking deck either by the North or South Terminal and watch. I don't know of any better places on the field.

ATL spotting

You can't beat the South Terminal Daily Garage. Top level starting at 4 pm daily is the best. Good for both spotting and taking pics. Other places I've heard of people going are the remote parking lots on the other side of 85 and some of the parking lots in College Park.

marta parking lot in CP used to be good, flack jacket required, and the rennaisance hotel has the BEST view around.

Loop road on the north side near Airport Group International, there are a few parking lots out there, down from FedEx.

You will see them coming right over the Ford plant.

Mercury is also a good place watch.

ATL spots

ATL Landing East:
North Terminal Parking Deck - Daily Parking ... all the way out on the end
-or-
South Terminal Parking Deck - Daily Parking ... either way, you get a good view. South side is a better view because the runways extend past the parking structure.

ATL Landing West: Airport Loop road underneath runway 27L approach lights. This is the best spot in the world! The airplanes come over at about 100 feet. Looks awesome and is a blast to hear the wake turbulence as it swirls around you.

Just my own suggestion
