Are you jealous because it took you a while?

I did my ratings in 6 months because I busted my butt and studied and worked hard. Then I paid my dues by instructing, and flying freight, and flying for some small 135 operators and finally got the dream job. Theres no reason to waste time and taking 2-4 years just to get your ratings. As they say in the airlines, senoirity is everything in this career.

whats the hurry? There are lots of ticket factories out there. Take your time, learn as much as you can. DCA's program will run you about 10 months. Besides, the airlines aren't going anywhere. Not that anyone should be in a hurry to get FURLOUGHED!

Don't bother with DCA. They are way overpriced and have old beat up airplanes.

If it were me, I would go and do Flight Safety's advanced airline training program. There were at least 15 people in recent new hire classes at ASA with less than 500 hrs TT. For the money they seem to be the best bet in the US right now. Especially if you are looking at spending some cash. I think almost all of them did it in less than a year. Plus their aircraft are new and it is located in a pretty nice area (Vero Beach), unlike Slumford.

I agree with stryker, Flight safety has a much nicer setup than DCA. Dca's planes are pyles of ********************! Either way, BOTH schools are overpriced!
Tell your pal to go to a local FBO and get to work on his ratings.

Another possible option is to do the FBO route for all ratings except CFI, and then go to a school/academy to pound that out real quick. That's what I'm doing and it seems to be a good compromise between cost, gaining useful experience, getting it done in a timely manner, and hopefully decreasing the chances of having an unreasonable FAA examiner for the CFI ride. I think I'll be doing the American Flyers CFI academy out of KPMP.

Are they good for getting you through the CFI checkride, good at making you a confident, well rounded instructor, or both?

I've been leaning towards American Flyers as they seem to have a reputation for developing good CFIs that know how to teach. Anybody have any experience with them?

They are outstanding. A little more expensive, but they do turn out a good CFI. You will know your stuff when you are done.

For PAS, I'd say both. Passed all three rides on the first take. I moved back to NY after my training(IFR thru MEI) and was actually hired by AF. I ended up not working there to go to college full-time instead. Call Herb, check out the website, and have him send you some info. Probably worth the cost of a phone call. 316-778-1712.

go look into american flyers they are a great school and they are part 141 so you dont have to deal with the FAA, you know how they can get. If you want to go to florida they have a orlando school and a pampino school. The pamp school has a cfi program that gets you done in no time.
