Please forgive this small irrelevancy. I'm just enthusiastic about this.
For those of you folks (like me) who never flew in the military and are curious what it's like, pick up a copy of Punk's War by Ward Carroll. When I fisrt saw it, I dismissed it as another fluffy technothriller written by a prima donna Navy jet jockey. I was dead wrong. This book is to carrier aviation what M*A*S*H is to the Army and Catch-22 is to the Air Force (USAAC).
One of the themes of this book is that for an officer to be successful in today's military, 75% of his/her time and energy must be devoted to not being blamed for something bad...covering your as_. Funny, I saw this principle at work in the Army and elsewhere...but I've never heard anyone say it out loud, let alone read it in a book.
Anyway, I highly recommend this book. Thanks for your time.
