Someone on this board commented a few weeks ago on this book .."Fate is The Hunter" by Ernest K. Gann. It's still available in paperback at $14.00 at Barney Noble. Excellent!! There have been more than a couple of movies made based on this book, and others by this author. This Author was a PILOT first...(10,000+ hours) ...before he started writing. Required reading for anyone interested in flying for "The Lines".

Yup, I'm on the second to last chapter. That was real flying. Reminds me of Duke Ellegant's posts.

Gann fans are every where on this board. If you like Fate is the Hunter, you have to read Hostage to Fortune, which is Gann's bio and where he gets all of material for his books. When I fly the DC-3 in the summer I am on an E. Gann fantasy trip going down AM-21 again. No auto pilot, no flight director, no GPS, watching carb temp, oil temp, cyl temp, running the full tanks by a stop watch. When it rains outside it rains in the cockpit. It is what flying is all about.

NOw that's what I'm talkin' about. Island in the Sky is a great read as well.

Fate

I really like the preface to Fate is the Hunter! Great Book! AM-21. I wish I could have flown back then when flying was done by hand and navigation by the stars! GPS huh? Garmin 430 what?
