Just looking for info from anyone who has been to SXM St.Maarten, where to stay, what to do, discount hotels for airlines? thanks

Do a search, I've seen several things on here even in the past few months about SXM. But here's some things I'll say from my experience.

You can get REALLY close to airplanes taking off to the east but DON'T stand right behind the runway unless you like that freshly sandblasted feeling. The bar at the SW corner of the runway is pretty nice in those mild evenings outdoors, try a Guavaberry Colada and bring a bottle or two home duty free. Also go to a store and buy a can of the Guavaberry Brand Jerk Seasoning.

Mix about a fourth of the can with Italian dressing to make a paste. Spread it all over a large whole chicken, letting it marinade on a plate in a plastic bag for the whole day. Then do the beer can chicken grilling method, this is the BEST grilling I have EVER had. If you're unfamiliar, open a can of beer, take a sip or two, stick the can in the birds a$$ and set it upright on the grill (tricky) over hot charcoal. Don't touch for 45-60 minutes then ENJOY.

Got off track, sorry. Take the catamaran to St. Barths for a day (only about $50 round trip). Rent a mini-moke and drive the island to see the sights. YOU MUST GO TO LE SELECT for a cheeseburger in paradise and a Red Stripe (this is the original Jimmy Buffett burger). Don't bother shopping, you're a pilot, you can't affort anything. Check out the top of the hill overlooking the most dangerous approach in the world. It will look like the Twin Otters are going to take your head off.

Back on St. Maarten go out to the casinos and night clubs on the Dutch side. The French side isn't worth spending a lot of time at unless you're looking for an EXCELLENT meal. Check out the port in Phillipsburg where the cruise ships come in, a lot of cheap duty free shopping can be done here.

Have fun and bring me back some jerk seasoning!

It's fun hanging out directly behind departing aircraft...just don't leave a lot of sand between you and the airplane...because it will end up sandblasting you. And it's a little un-nerving standing your ground as a 747 or A340 is barrelling down on you at 140kts.
