Does anyone have experience with going through security with a metal plate inside them? I just had surgery and now have a metal plate and 6 screws and will set the detector off going through. Is this going to be a huge hassle? What should I expect? My doctor didn't really have a concrete answer.

I have a 1 inch X 7 inch titanium plate along my left radius with 7 screws holding it in place. It does not set off the metal detector...

Which begs the question...if I had a 1 inch by 7 inch titanium knife, would it set off the metal detector?

You're good man. I have a plate and 9 screws in my leg and I never set it off. If they do extra screening and wand you down it'll set that one off, but just show them the scar. They see that all the time.

Also you can get this card from your Dr. that says you have medical metal in you, if you want to be that thorough.

flew with a captain with 1/2 a left leg. (no ********************...1/2 a left leg) the dude is a stud...smartest guy in the world...became an FFDO so he didn't have to deal with the bull******************** anymore...

Brilliant!!!!

Hmmm,

Plate in pelvis with eight screws. Four screws in each knee. Rod in left femur with four screws. No problem unless they wand me.

Motocross sure is fun but it hurts when you when fall off.

Metal Plate and 8 screws in right ankle. Had it for a year now and never set off any bells/whistles.

What the heck guys?!!! Were you all riding on the same motorcycle?
Anyway, I see "cyborgs" as I call it, go through all the time and its simply a matter of telling them and you get wanded, that's all I have seen happen. A note from a doctor can help too, but it shouldn't be too big a deal.

this is the funniest thread i have read in a while and i'm not even sure why.

My Male appendage is made of die cast Iron, and my b@lls are made of detroit steel... I have yet to get a tsa burger flipper to inspect my junk...

I have metal in my hip...set off about 50% of the mavhines off....my home airport treats me well...but when I am somewhere I have not been through they treat me pretty pretty good but once in a while it gets to be a pain if you are trying to make a tight flight or something.

Do the FFDO thing if you are a pilot....i wanted to but have had trouble scheduling it....went right through all the background and psych testing and scheduled but had to cancel due to a flight conflict.

It gets old...but we have to be screened...they trust us with thier lives but we have to do the screening....bugs me...we are the inflight security coordinator once we pass through the arch...they trust us with that and a crash axe....but not a nail clipper...

don't get me going!

I just got a plate and 7 screws in my arm and my doc said show the scar and they will understand. The card you get won't work because anyone can falsify it.

Is your roomie still in jail for all that?

It wasn't because of me that he was in jail but no he got out a couple day's later kinda scary someone like him may be in a plane with people on it though I can tell you his room reeks of bud right now.

I have a rod and screws in my tibia. Set off the detector alot during the holidays. Only happens once in a while other times.

I have 2 plates and 17 screws in my left arm. The Dr said the one plate is the longest metal plate made to be in the arm(this one has 10 screws in it). I also have a 2 inch pin in the scaphoid bone in the wrist. I also have a 6 inch plate with 6 screws in my pelvis. My wife has a 2 inch plate for her broken collarbone. This was a painful motorcycle wreck. I went thru iah and mia with no problems setting off the metal detector a few weeks ago.

Good God, glad to know I am not alone! Right hip, 6 screws with plate and wire around the edge (circa 1990). No problem with security.

Cheers- Rum
