I have a serious concern about TSA. I have an interview with Trans States. If TSA's focus is Go-Jets what does that do for the QOL at Trans States? I mean is there any future growth there, what are upgrade times like? I am all about paying my dues and all but realistically who wants to sit in the right seat forever?

I have a friend who was hired at TSA a few weeks back, they told him upgrades could be as fast as 18 months. Mostly due to attrition, Jet blue and others. Probelm, working at TSA is not a dream job. One friend of mine told me that he would get so pissed after each trip that he would fill out another application each time.

I have many friends at TSA. They for the most part are happy working there. You will find many friendly and professional people throughout the organization. I am told upgrade on a prop about 18 months and up to 3 years on the jets.

18 months on the props and 3yrs on Jet is right on, for now. The good news as far as upgrading is that everyone is getting fed up with the clown tactics around here ( read: BlowJets) so everyone has many resumes in to other places. Of course thats probably HKs plan to have everyone leave so he doesn't have to pay more than 3rd year pay or so.

Does TSA pay you during training? Do they put you in a hotel?

Pay is 60 hr guarantee at first year pay during training. Housing is up to you to find. There are all kinds of crash pads around there. Most run around 145 a month or so.

Most companies say that people are their most important asset. The good ones actually act like it. At Trans States, there is no pretense for either. Having worked for many companies large and small, I can say that this is the worst corporate culture I have had the misfortune to encounter.

The clown tactics worked on me. I have a class date with a *good* airline and am gladly walking away from TSA, as have more than HALF of my new hire FO class has done in just a year. What does it say about an airline with "18 month upgrades" that half of the new hires bail in 12 months?

To the CFI's out there getting sick of doing steep turns/power on/power off/slow flight 4 times a day: Don't make your decision based on upgrade times. Upgrade times change all the time - usually for the worst. Choose a strong company instead, even if it means another six months of flight instructing. The real opportunity comes from growth, and the strong companies are the ones winning *and keeping* new business. Trans States has the distinction of being fired by almost everybody at one time or another. Worse yet, if the company succeeds with its alter ego carrier you can bet your headsets that any new business will go on the alter ego certificate - for a low wage. I can forsee that there will be no new flying done on the Trans States certificate, unless the pilots are whipsawed into a sub-standard contract.

Where are your bases? also, how will you guys treat the Mid-Atlantic pilots now that the deal seems to be made? Will TSA keep the pilots, or will they be out on the street once again?

Trouble is, that if it was only six or twelve more months, you could hope to get people to understand that.

What's the upgrade time at Eagle and Air WI now, anyway?

Getting people to buy off on a five or seven year upgrade is a tougher case to make.

Can't comment on Eagle, but looking at our seniority our junior CA has been here under 4 years (+/- a few months). With our attrition it's anyones guess what current newhires upgrade projections are. I'm 100 or so from it and I've been on property just over a year.

Something to keep in mind though... our current contract is much better than what TSA has and as far as second year pay... We'll, I'm just about $9 more per hour than my buddy over at TSA. (24 and change vs 33 and change)

Both are regionals and both are going through their own struggles, so flip a coin, that's probably your best bet.

Still a good barometer.

How will you convince someone to wait 4 years if two will do elsewhere?

What do you offer them in return, other than your personal approval?

I am not offering my personal approval to anyone, nor do they need it. My motivation is simply to pass on the benefit of experience to those that have not yet been there.

But then again we all must make our own choices, and the burned hand does learn best.

Republic (Chautauqua) bought Mid-Atlantic's jets, NOT TSA. How are you confusing the two??

St. Louis and Richmond. In the last newhire class there were twelve people, the bottom 3 got assigned Richmond, the rest got what they wanted.

Blaze:

I starting to wonder if your kidding about MDA and TSA. Are you?

You do know that TSA has or will have nothing to do with MDA. It's all a CHQ and Republic thing.

Did you forget to log out again?

Just a few more questions... How long are new hires on reserve? How many days off a month can you expect? Are they hiring into the Jetstream 41 or the Embraer?

The last class was all ERJ. The class before that, I think one guy got the J41
