Pilot survives Orangeburg plane crash

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - An unidentified pilot survived a plane crash after the aircraft apparently ran out of gas, an emergency official said.
The female pilot was trapped after the plane crashed into some woods to the south of Orangeburg late Friday night.

The pilot called 911 on her cell phone to try to help emergency workers locate her, said John Smith, director of emergency services for Orangeburg County.

She couldn't reach her global positioning system device and she was trying to describe things she could see, Smith said. She was eventually located by plane through a transmitter and a ground crew spotted her.

The woman told authorities she was flying to Columbia from Savannah, Ga.

Cargo-plane pilot recovering after crash

A Georgia pilot was recovering Saturday after her cargo plane crashed in Orangeburg County the night before.
Teresa Clark of Swainsboro was flying alone from Savannah, Ga., to Columbia when her Embraer E10 went down in a wooded area, said Michele Van Ness, executive vice president of AirNow in Bennington, Vt. Clark “encountered some difficulty” with the turboprop and was taken to a Columbia hospital after the crash, Van Ness said. The FAA is investigating.

5. Agree to remain employed as an AirNow flight crew member for 18 months after completing Early Upgrade Program. Applicant to sign $9,000 Flight Training Promissory note for 18 month term.
