global vs. challenger?

Global type is 37,000. Challenger is 33,000. Any contract guys know the job availability vs. qualified pilots for either one? Please respond if you have any idea. I promise not to steal your job. Thanks.
 
My guess is that there is probably more contract work for Challenger pilots. Then you get to decide which type you want--601 or 604. I'm finding that there are quite a few 600/601's out there in the charter/management fleets that often need part-time crewmembers. Probably more 604's among the corporate group.

I'd give Jet Professionals or another of the contract pilot providers a call before I spent any money on a type, if that is your intent. I just went through this getting back into flying--that is, trying to pick which type to re-up. I thought about getting another type in a newer aircraft, but that's a wicked gamble with that much change. Even recurrents ain't cheap, eh.

If you're going to splurge that kind of $$$ for a type, I'd get a Gulfstream type, then go pound the pavement around FBOs/charter operators in NYC, FLL, DAL, or Southern California. It might suck and be expensive at first, but it will pay for itself.

Also - if you want to get a Bombardier type rating, maybe think about the Challenger 300. I'm not sure of its cost but not too many people have that one yet so because of limited supply (of pilots) coupled with a popular airplane, it might be a wise investment.

He is correct. G-350/400/450/500/550 all in one type. However unless you are expirenced in long range international and large corp aircraft I would not bother.

While I would tend to agree, I do know a couple of guys who have done the PFT thing in the Global and have business than they can handle, so I don't think you can discount the idea completely.

I replied to a post on here about a month ago about the Challenger 300 and that there was a nine month wait for sim school, but someone said that Flight Safety is building one to help the cause, but just keep that in mind, and do some research. Good luck, let us know how it all works out.

Exactly. I hired a guy for contract fresh out of 2000 school with almost no time in type but he had been flying the 900/50 for the past several years. Time in type is not everything. Overall expirence is what I look for when hiring a contractor ...

The G-400 is NOT included under this Type Rating... Also the Straight G-V is included as well... All fall under the "G-V" Type Rating (the G-300 & G-400 fall under the G-IV Type Rating)...
 
Just to clarify my post, since last night I was at about the 28 hour point without sleep...

G-IV Type Rating covers:
G-IV
G-IVsp
G-300
G-400

G-V Type Rating covers:
G-V
G-350
G-450
G-500
G-550 (G-Vsp)

Get the one where you know someone who will use you right away. If you have a friend flying one or the other, for example.

If you don't know anyone with a Challenger or a Global (or a Gulfstream) who would use you, knock on some doors in your area and find out if any flight departments would consider using you, if you were trained. I can tell you from experience that it's always nicer to fly a local airplane than it is to airline off somewhere for trips.
