Congratulations to Steve Fosset, Sir Richard Banson and the entire Global Flyer team! I just hope their next invention isn't a 23,000NM bizjet! ;)

Job well done folks!

This is a great achievement---Rutan can build anything. Branson can buy anything :) .

Are there any of these major records left to win?
Space Orbit?

I'm beginning to think if there is a team that will fully commericalize space first, it'll be Branson and Rutan.

Congrats Global Flyer!

Cool !!!

Congratulations to a great team !!!

Another chapter to put in the pages of aviation history.

After seeing a 60 year old guy fly around the globe and then do such a good job on an approach and landing......I've gotta quit complaining about my normal 4 1/2 hour flight from the West coast to JFK.

I guess that I'll have to come up with a new excuse for my terrible landings. ;)

Well done Steve Fossett, Burt Rutan and Scaled Composites and Richard Branson. Let's also not forget the folks from Kansas State's Aviation and Engineering programs. Congrats to all.

Also congrats to Williams Engines as they continue to revolutionize small jet technology.

Burt Rutan is as close to a hero as aviation has these days. Glad there are some people out there looking at innovation and adventure instead of deciding it has all been done and the glory gone. I think there is another big one left in my lifetime, Earth orbit by a private company.

Big News -

Congratulations to Sir Richard Branson, Steve Fossett, Scaled Composites and the entire team of Virgin Atlantic and the Global Flyer. My father and I followed this flight from takeoff to touchdown on FlightExplorer and various internet sites. It was definately a thrill watching video feed from the chase plane and listening in via MSN.COM for the hour or so before touchdown and they also provided ATC overlay so you could hear all of the normal transmissions taking place. Good to hear all the airliners calling into tower to congratulate him on a job well done! But I just could not believe all of the commentary by news organizations saying that this was barely news worthy! Can you believe that? Who the F*CK cares about Michael jackson or some Chicago murder mystery while you've got aviation history taking place LIVE! I was excited and impressed when these guys pulled off an around the world flight in a balloon, but an aircraft makes it all that more impressive! Good job on handling the fuel and landing gear problems and a big high five for sticking it out and making it all the way in. Now they've just got to watch out for me breaking their speed record one day! From everyone at First Coast Air Group, JetLink, Star XVI, and Butler Air = CONGRATS STEVE!

Question. How will he log the flight? Cross country or local?

Depends, does he want to use the time towards his ATP?:D Because if he wants his Commercial certificate then legally he can not log it is X-country time.

Congrats!

I'm impressed. Too bad, in today's blase society, that Steve will not receive the accolades he deserves.

Sir Richard may have paid for the flight, but Steve flew it.

I second that, Burt is truly a pioneer in our day and age. I wish more people recognized his incredible mind and innovation. Many, many years ago we'll look back at all he did, and the innovations he created and truly realize what an impact he made on aviation! There's not a better mind in the business.

What about the engines the put on the Eclipse-500???

Should have done a touch and go in Arkansas.
