I couldn't find anything at travel.state.gov, but I'm pretty sure we can get a second passport in order to continue international travel while having a passport out getting a visa.

Could someone provide a link?

Second passport

I called the passport office and asked if i can carry two valid US passports and the answer was NO unless you have to travel between Israel and Saudi arabia or you are with the military.

If you are a dual national then you could carry two passports.

And here I thought this was going to be a good thread on how to escape America ;) .

The BBC just had a good report on Somalia and how you could get an official Somali passport in the markets of Mogadishu. Years ago there was a company that offered " second passports " on the internet. They usually came complete with a " second driver's license " and a few other forms of identity. The purported purpose was to use them in case you were ever captured by people who didn't like Americans. Not a bad idea actually, especially for those of us who travel overseas a lot. Just don't get the " second passport " from Israel :p .

Maybe the passport office is like the FAA - if you don't hear the answer that you want to hear from one person, just keep asking the question until you get the answer you want to hear. :p

Actually, the practice is pretty common and for the reason that ultrarunner mentioned. I've attended several NBAA International Operators Conferences and the topic has been brought up several times. I guess policies could have changes post-9/11 so if I were you, I'd get a hold of the folks at www.3gvisas.com. They will know the correct answer to your question and they're the ones that you go to whenever you need help in arranging expeditied passports and visas on short notice. I've used them many times.

It's not too difficult to obtain a 2nd one, but it's easiest doing so through a private passport service agency that has the required forms, applications, etc., and does the work for you with the Passport Agency. They can also expedite passport/visa issues for a fee.

Part of applying and obtaining a 2nd one involves a statement outlining why it's required. Flight crew operating in the Middle East/Israel or sending your only one out for a visa (which essentially grounds you for intl'l work) are valid reasons.

Someone else posted a private company's name. Off the top of my head I can recall a company named Travisa doing the same kind of work. All your answers should be found on one of those, or similar, websites.

I have had 2 Passports for quite some time. I cant remember the link but contact G3 Passports.

It's not hard.

ditto the g3visas thing....

Many people have 2 passports. You need multiples to have one when one is out for Visas.
