I'm spinning my wheels racking up SIC in an RJ at a regional with no hope in sight of getting PIC. Anybody know how I can get into the left seat somewhere so I can get that elusive 1000 turbine PIC and then be eligible to apply somewhere that actually pays a good salary? I live in San Diego and don't know where to start when it comes to finding jobs in SoCal.

turbine pic

check out your local skydiving centers. lots of king airs, caravans, twin otters etc.

okay

there's one about 10 minutes from my house. I'll have to drop by. But where do they post for those kind of jobs?

They don't post. You just show up and convince the guy in charge that they should hire you.

isnt that how most good jobs are attained?

Just be happy these days that you are getting the elusive Part 121 Jet time over 25,000 lbs. Your time will come.

hmmm, not happy

yeah, you're right, I can sit here and be happy but end up at the end of the line when the hiring starts again or be proactive and try to be on the front end of hiring when airlines start taking apps again.

My company is selling my jet, I'll take your right seat job, and you go fly skydivers, sounds good to me.

I just talked with the owner of Skydive Elsinore a little while ago. He said he is all set on Otter pilots right now. You may have better luck at Skydive Perris Valley. I am not sure if they need anyone but both companies are worth the effort. It is fun flying that most pilots never get to experience. As far as getting turbine Pic it adds up quick. I usually don't start up the King air unless we are going to fly it for 5 hours that day. 9-10 hours of flight time in a day is not unusual. Although this is not turbine 121 CREW pic. If that matters to you. Getting hired at a dropzone is like all places. Either you know someone there or you show your face every day until you do. Best of luck...

P.S. if you recommend me to your regional you can be sure I will get you in flying at a dropzone...;) :D

Someone else might have more up-to-date info, but from what I have seen on the web you will need 5000 TT to be competitive along with that 1000 turbine PIC. I'll bet most of the opertors that want this time also want part 121 or 135 PIC turbine, to boot.

A busy King Air charter op as PIC might be just the thing, along with your 121 experience. Just a thought. Of course, getting qualified to be PIC in the KA might be a problem, since there are so many qualified pilots out there already.

Good luck.
