What is the current practice of FedEx hiring pilots from LCC or other majors? Seems like at one time, they would not consider these folks, only those that haven't had a shot a bigger job.

They have had pilots leave NWA mainline to fly at FedEx recently.

From the Chief Pilot, dated today "As for hiring, we still are not interviewing pilots who actively work for major airlines".

Last I checked, no LCC is considered a major airline, and I couldn't say how they view WN. (Sorry SWA/FO) Please spare me all of the textbook definitions of "major airline". I have no idea what the FedEx hiring gurus consider major. Besides, no one would ever leave WN for FX - right?

I was hired while actively employed at a reasonably healthy LCC and with a furloughed seniority number from a legacy carrier that was not in bankruptcy. Clearly there is a bit of flexibility in the stated criteria. I would say that, at a minimum, you would need a very good sponsor to "slide" on any of these criteria. Good luck.

They're hiring from AirTran for sure.

That must have changed again as of today because they just hired someone from "LCC"

I know a couple of guys who have been hired while working at a LCC. Myself included. Now if they would just call me with a class date.

Is anyone without a 4yr degree getting hired?

0.00% As competitive as the applicants are today it would probably help if you had your Masters in something...seriously.

FedEx has hired several from Jetblue and from Airtran.

For every example the boss mentioned, I've seen an exception. Network, persevere, and keep trying.

Jack does a tough job. He also retires in a year or two. The new boss may have a 100% different take. Apply, apply, apply. The only thing that doesn't change is the fact you cannot get hired without an app on file. The requirement for the 4 year degree seems to be almost as firm...

Good luck everyone.

I personally know a guy that was a Pinnacle pilot and former nfl player that was hired without a 4 year degree about a year and a half ago.

Well...then I guess you can either knock out a four year degree OR go play 8 years of pro ball as an offensive lineman. Your call...

I cannot help but think somewhere he picked up a degree from an online or distance learning program, but I may be wrong.

Why is it so competetive?

I'll tell you why, exception of SWA, and even they are not exempt from high cost of oil and any terrorist threats. Fedex and UPS are making money hand over fist. If oil goes up, tack it onto the price to ship a package. Have you ever heard UPS or FEDEX having finacial problems? NO.. I think a SWA pilot would be crazy to turn down a seat at Fedex or UPS, unless he likes to work a lot. No disrespect to SWA, you guys have the best passenger model, but UPS has an A and B plan, as does FEDEX and Fedex has a match of $500/yr in their 401K. Just checkout the pay for these guys..

I can see why competition is so fierce.

Is the lack of a sponsor still a no-go item?

Latest word is that M&G's will slow to a trickle. Big pool right now that has been hired waiting for class dates. Just don't need 'em right now, I guess. Have no clue when they will pick up again.
