Anybody ever heard of getting your ATP rating combined with the line/pro check you have to do every year anyway? You fly your aircraft almost every day anyway so you're proficient in it. Need to save the $$$ on airplane rental if I can. Thanks .
The ATP requires a checkride. As stated, if you don't have it then you can obtain it with a Captain checkride along with your type rating. You can't receive your ATP with just a regular line check.
I received my type rating along with my ATP from our company checkairman when I upgraded to Capt in the Metroliner at the commuters many moons ago.
The ATP can be combined with proficiency check. It will be more thorough and involved, but if your DE/company is williing it can happen (and has). It will not happen on a line check, as that is a Captains observed line flight and would be difficult to complete required maneuvers with pas on board!
I've heard of 135 drivers who get their ATP during their proficiency checks. It's basically the same ride. I would set it up with your company's POI ahead of time and have your 8710 completed ahead of time as well.
