All your super senior ‘team players’ that were just holding on so they could get theirs are now gone. Now you have a bunch of 45-52 yo captains. These guys know that there are no employers looking for washed up 50 yo pilots that only benefit to a potential employer is that then can grease a 76 in 20 knot crosswind. They have mortgages, kids in college, etc… they aren’t walking! Next you have guys that just recently upgraded or are about to. These guys have been flying for many years, and even with pay cuts they ALL know they have no chance of replacing that income in the ‘real’ world. Sure, there are some smart ones, but mostly a NO. Your ‘yes’ contingency is the 88 and 73-200 guys that have been on and off furlough, their pay sux and they finally realize that flying for $65k into little rock at 2am on xmas eve SUX! These are the ones that CAN replace the income and are the most vocal. There is your yes vote. Greenjeans and his boys are protected, Delta FA’s can just go somewhere else or go work at Phipps, mechanics would get hosed and most likely be hunting you guys down afterwards. Comair/ASA guys would mostly be better off if it did fold so really the ones with the most to lose BY FAR are you, and that doesn’t give you any leverage. Now you can huff and puff, but at the end of the day in an anonymous vote you guys will be 55/45 again and EVERYONE KNOWS IT. Sure, there will be brinksmanship on both sides but at the end of the day you will concede…
Now, your turn. You’re the guy who ‘slugged it out’ in a brasilia for 8 cents an hour, got hired at Delta, been though 9/11, paid your dues, you’re getting ready to upgrade, and now feel falsely entitled to yours. Without those 4 bars your life is nothing. Your self esteem and entire life in wrapped up in delta and outside of that you know you’d get your arse handed to you in a true free market environment. You speak of your Delta ‘Brothers’ but your selfishness is only matched by your adolescent and blatant hypocrisy. You predictably talk of how only you are attempting to hold up the bar, but then argue that you personally aren’t taking a pay cut now because you are upgrading, gee, that sounds similar to the ‘regional’ guys that take pay cuts with the promise of quicker upgrades. The same guys you condescendingly argue are ‘bringing down the profession’. Sounds like you have shiny upgrade/hypocrite syndrome.
I commuted for years out of florida and have had the pleasure of meeting many good DELTA guys who don’t share your community college intellect. YOU however, are a complete boob. We all know without delta you’d be the next guy to hang himself in the lav. Oh, and yes we all also know GL would only hang himself in a DELTA 75 on the way to st marteen. So keep putting down the ‘feed’ guys, keep boasting about how you ‘make 5 times a skywest guy’. The only person who is impressed by your mindless droning is the 19 yo ERAU guy or maybe your daughters friends who still think your cool cuzz you fly jets to the ‘Caribbean’
