I have a trip coming up to New York (Yanks game) and am curious as to what the best airport would be to fly in to? I will be flying a Seneca from Indiana. I have it narrowed to TEB, HPN, and CDW. Kinda been thinking TEB would be a hassle with the high density traffic. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also what routing is best to file from the west in a piston? Thanks!

I'd go to TEB if it were me. They are probably about the same distance from Yankee stadium....I just pick TEB cuz seeing all the jets would be cool :)

Jets are "ok", the sweet, young, and gorgeous girls at Jet Aviation are a much nicer sight in my opinion... Not even a close call.:D

D@mn - I miss dem days (:D)

Hmm, why not try Farmingdale. From there, hop on the LIE 25 minutes to the 295 and take the Throgs Neck Bridge into the Bronx. Or you can even take the LIRR from Farmingdale and hop on the subway from there.
BTW- go Mets!

When you said Farmingdale I thought you meant BLM, Monmouth Executive aka Allaire aka Belmar aka Belmar Farmingdale at first...scared me :)
lol, i dont follow. can you please speak english.
just kidding, no i meant Farmingdale (FRG) in Long Island, New York.

I used to instruct in Teterboro (private, inst., commercial) up until 6 months ago - don't go in VFR or they'll ignore you. I once witnessed them (Tower) hold a Baron outside for 45+ mins while I filed a pop-up IFR with center and got in. It's a 25 minute bus ride to the port authority bus terminal in NY, and from there I'm sure there's a bus to Yankee Stadium, cost you about $8 probably round trip.

As for the FBO's there - I'm not familar with operating with them as I was over on the other side near the new tower and flexjet's hanger. But I heard MillionAir was great for GA on the weekends and gave great treatment to the little guys. Look up Teterboro on airnav.com and you can read what everyone says about all the FBO's.

As for routing - it doesn't matter. They'll give you what they want to - nothin' will help in my experience. I would just file direct and let the FAA do the planning for me :).

Caldwell is about another 30 minute drive from Teterboro, but considerably cheaper. HPN is VERY far away from where your destination is (near Queens I believe right?) you could plan on about an hour to get there from HPN. Farmingdale is a 6 hour commute (round trip) easy if you miss the trains like I did when I first flew into New York City before instructing. If I had my choice just bite the bullet and go to Teterboro - there's a reason it's so expensive - it's so close!

I don't get why you think HPN is so far away.. It is White Plains.. just north of the Bronx.. I will agree though public transportation will be much more of a hassle, it really is NOT that far and it is not in Queens either...

FRG... 6 hours r/t on a friday afternoon at 5:30 on the LIE maybe... By train.. LIRR leaves about every 1 hour to and from Penn Station.

The FBO would drop you at the train station (about 3-4 minutes away)

http://lirr42.mta.info/index.asp is a link to the train schedules.. you can also see maps for subway/bus/metro north.

The only comment I have though.. the routing from ATC sucks.. they bring you way off shore via colts neck like 15-20 miles and low before routing you towards FRG, loose an engine or two and your swimming... On departure.. if you ask for a decent altitude (high) they will vector you over Manhattan before setting you loose

That was probably me :o Positioning from CDW can take 6 mins or 1 hour.

TEB is a hassle, but has better transportation choices.

Yeah, without a doubt FRG will be the easiest, least hassle way to get to Yankee Stadium.
