As we've been learning about the various batteries in our aircraft for fellow CubCrafters owners here there is one more battery in play and that's the Garmin G5. Probably one least thought about so I figured I'd dig into the manuals to see what I could find. The battery type is Lithium Ion (different from LiFePO4) so it may not be susceptible to the cold temp charging conditions we've been discussing. I could not find anything related to endurance testing, if anyone knows of that info, please share. Moral is, if you have to use and rely on your G5, how long will it last?

There is a battery status indicator at the top left in some diagrams in the manual, I'm guessing this shows at startup, I never paid attention to it to see when it shows. In the G5 config menu, the battery status is shown at the bottom. There are error messages displayed if the battery has a fault, etc.

Please share anything you learn or know related to the Garmin G5 backup battery to help educate others here.

10.2 G5 Battery Periodic Maintenance
For maximum battery longevity, store within a temperature range of -4˚F to 68˚F (from -20˚C to 20˚C).
The G5 battery should be kept partially charged when unused for longer periods of time and should not be
stored when completely discharged. Charge the battery to 30% within 1 year of receipt and recharge to
30% every 2 years thereafter if the G5 is not in use.
 
The G5 displays an indication of its assumed state of battery charge. The available duration can be tested by powering G5 with MAIN bus off or by pulling the G5 breaker if MAIN bus is powered.

The G5 CSV data log includes the following -

In this test my G5 battery had discharged to about 80% capacity after 100 minutes.
