How many of you are carrying concealed weapons since 9-11? I personally fly for my day job (not an airline pilot) and have since gotten my carry permit and carry a 357 Magnum.

Our hanger is located in the "woods", off the main taxi-way at the airport. I have three planes in my hanger and regularly travel in and out of the hanger at night.

No, I am not one of those "paranoid nuts", I used to bodyguard, bounce and have been "across the seas" a few times. I am just trying to "up the ante" a bit.....

Thoughts?

I could but don't

Being a full time Police Officer I could carry a handgun unfortunately until the senate passes legislation allowing Law Enforcement to carry in all 50 states I would be concerned with landing in an "unfreindly jurisdiction" . Some cops take there job to seriously. Chas

flying corporate, i feel im gonna get hijacked every day that i fly a trip. I carry my glock all the time. My sales reps are all terroists.

"unfreindly jurisdiction"

As far as the the "unfriendly jurisdiction" problem, Georgia has reciprication with most of teh southeast states. I know which states I can carry in before leaving home. I won't carry if I am entering a state that doesn't recognize without first contacting the state police and advising them and asking for their advice....

For those of you interested in concealed weapons carry, a good source of info is www.packing.org If you have a concealed weapons permit from one state, that web site has a "tool" that will tell you what other states your CWP permit is recognized in.

I think the bigger question for pilots may be: Assuming you can LEGALLY carry a concealed weapon, what parts of an airport are "ok" to carry in; and what parts are not? I would think there is a definitive FAR on this; can anyone tell us what it is, and maybe excerpt/quote the applicable text?

FAR's

FAR 135.119 PROHIBITION AGAINST CARRIAGE OF WEAPONS.

This only applies to part 135 operations.

No person may, while on board an aircraft operated by a certificate holder, carry on or about that person a deadly opr dangerous weapon, either concealed or otherwise. This ection does not apply to -
(a) Officials or employees of a municipality or a state, or the united states, who are authorized to carry arms;, or
(b) Crewmembers and other persons authorized by the certificate holder to carry arms.

I fly part 91, and my boss has designated our workplace a "weapons friendly" environment. I saw no other reg that applied to GA.

You do have to be careful these days carrying a firearm at an airport. I think it would be best to keep them hidden very well unless needed.
