Might be taking the boss to Atlanta once per month, and am looking for recommendations for smaller airports within a taxi-ride distance to downtown and to Marietta. Can someone suggest an airport/FBO with reasonable fees and close enough to get a taxi to the meeting sites?

Also for Washington DC and NY? I imagine NY will be a nightmare, but we go there often and if he wants to take a rental ... hey, I need the hours. Besides, it beats sitting inside in front of a computer all day. :D

Fty

I would choose FTY. It is pretty close to both downtown and Marietta/Smyrna about 10-15 minutes either way on I-20E to downtown and I-285N to Marietta. Have fun in Atlanta...

KRYY, McCollum field, in Kennesaw is close to Marietta and a straight shot down the interstate to downtown. KPDK, peachtree dekalb, is a little closer to downtown areas, but a more difficult drive to Marietta. FTY is an option also, and is equidistant from both points. The only downside is it is not near either one. Rather, FTY is the third corner of a triangle with Marietta and downtown. If you plan to hit both Marietta and downtown in one day, I would recommend McCollum. I live downtown now (2 years) and lived in Marietta for 2 years. Others may have the "pleasure" of living in Atlanta longer, and can share their preferences.

I would suggest PDK in ATL, nice fbo. Signature IAD would be my choice although that will depend on where your boss needs to get to in the city

The best airport for a commute into the city is TEB, use JET there, nicest place on the field.

You are moving up in the world ehh?!?:D j/k

I am happy for you and hope you are able to fly as much as you would like...

enjoy,'

Thanks for the info, all. Hopefully I'll get a couple flights per month if everything works out.

(Wonder if I could talk my boss into buying a Kitfox to keep in my garage, so I could zip on over to the airport to pick him up on short notice :D )

KRYY is the closest to Marietta (10 minute drive) and nice enough. Northside Aviation is where most of the GA transients go.

goin flyin

For D.C. I would go into (GAI) Gaithersburg Airport it is accesible it's a quck taxi to the metro and the closest your going to get to DC as far as GA is concerned. File IFR and what ever you do don't ever have 1200 in your X-pnder. Have a great time slipin the surlies and sightseeing.

I would go to RYY if the boss is going to Marietta. On those IFR departures, I've sat in line at PDK for 1 hour before! If he is going to downtown--either PDK or FTY will do. FTY has Raytheon and PDK has Mercury and Signature. Check them out on www.airnav.com for contact info.
