Hi All,
I'm looking for recommendations on flight planning software. My missions are IFR & VRF cross countries in a piston single. I like the AOPA Real Time Flight Planner (FREE!), but it's limited: internet ALWAYS required, no manual route entry, doesn't know about victor airways, etc. So here's what I'd like:

* Built-in database with airports, airspace, navaids, airways, etc. This should allow basic flight planning without an internet connection.

* Updates of the database when internet available.

* Winds aloft (for time enroute), WX (with graphics), TFR's (with graphics), etc. when internet available.

* File flight plan when internet available.

* Storage of several aircraft profiles.

* Nice, chart-like graphics.

I know opinions are like bellybuttons; everybody has one. So let's hear yours.

Thanks.

Greg

Fltplan.com will have everything you need and its free.
Thanks, looks interesting. However, it appears totally Web-based. No good w/o an internet connection. I wan't to be able to fire up my laptop at a remote location w/o internet and do some basic flight planning.

I dont know any free progams for that but I also use flightsoft. It works great and is real accurate. Of course it is more accurate when you are online so the winds can be added to your flight planning performance.

Most FBO's have internet access so I use fltplan.com alot. You can file the flight plan and print out your flight log sheet from most FBO's

FlightSoft will give you all of what you are asking for and more, however It is not a free progam. I'm not sure how much it costs but it does a ton of stuff. It will even help you out with tracking your flight expenses.

Thanks again. I guess I should have mentioned that I am willing to buy the software.

Take a look at flightprep.com. Chart case has a planner that can be used with or without internet.

You should be able to click on buttons along the button to select what does and what doesn't appear. Check the manual online. Some of the icons don't make tons of sense :)

If you're looking for something that is actual software (not web-based) FliteStar by Jeppesen is probably the best out there. I have it setup with the JeppView subscription we have for the EFBs and it works great. I've had the program for many years, but find myself using FltPlan.com much more because of its ease of use. Its a bit on the pricy side, but has more than everything you'll ever need to do some real flight planning.
