We're getting 2 182's with the G1000 avionics installed in them at our school within 2 months. Anybody flown with the upgrade yet? User friendly? How about transitioning from "steam" gages?

Wow, great aircraft with an even better panel.......and you're getting two of them! Our flight school is getting a DA40 with the G1000 in the next few months.

Two Garmin representitaves stopped by with a demonstrator model of the setup. I didn't have the chance to work with it too much, but from my experience, if you can use a 430/530 you can use the G1000. I think the reps said it was about a 5 hour transition period from "steam" gauges to "glass"

Incidentally, another instructor and myself just ate lunch today with a Cessna dealer. He dropped off a whole packet on the G1000 and some basic info on the 182 and 206. (pm me if you want more info)

I think the trend for GA aircraft will be towards glass cockpits.......... eventually.

A buddy of mine said that a pilot who received their IFR ticket utilizing a glass airplane cannot jump into a "steam gauge" plane and blast off into IMC. Anybody have documented supporty one way or the other?

Also, I realize a FD is a different beast in the A/P realm, but why can't these gizmoes at least display a FD w/o coupling it? If the HSI portion is displaying LOC/GS info, why not add a few more lines of code for some bat wings? That would be REAL nice.
