Any ideas on where to rent a 182 or Arrow at FXE (or nearby) that is respectable and reasonable? I'd like to take it down to Marathon or Key West for an overnight.

Thanks in advance.

AirNav
just put in FXE, it will tell you the places around it, and you can check them to see who rents.

Airborne systems is a top-notch rental place out of FXE. They don't have 182's, but they do have some brand new 172sp's and I believe one has the up-linked wx in it! Most of the new ones (172’s) have the 'cool' avionics in them. That company has a pretty good fleet of airplanes and the scheduling policy is real easy to work with. I don't think they charge you for away time either. Last time I was flying with them out of FXE (about 6months ago) the policy was only hours flown were charged (none of that 1/2 the rental price for each away hour not flown bs). Reasonable rates, good maintenance, a pretty laid-back place and probably the most professional rental operation I have ever seen (especially for S. Florida).

I can 2nd Airborne Systems. I have checked them out a year ago but still have not rented from them or from anywhere else because all the $$ goes for training and I just can't justify it yet. But a bunch of other students here at the satellite DCA location are renting from them. They had no problems getting checked out. I have heard only positives so far. Looks like a very decent operation and as such, they seem to have reasonable prices.

Let us know about your experience and where you have ended up renting from. Also my CFI took me down to Key West on our x-country and he took me to a place (dunno the name or exact directions anymore because I got lost after the 2nd turn) it is on Duval Street. Anyways I ate the largest Shrimp Sandwich I have seen so far for only a few bucks. I could only figure out that it was a sandwich when I cleaned up ½ the shrimp :p . I wish I could recall the name of the place but if I see my CFI I will ask him. It is worth checking out although it looks like a crappy buffet at first.
